Rebuilt 468 V8! 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Malibu was the most popular Chevelle and one of Chevrolet’s best-selling cars overall. This beautiful Sport Coupe is from 1969 and looks to be in remarkable, but unoriginal condition. The body, paint, and interior look good overall and it has a powerful, rebuilt big block under the hood. Located in Melrose Park, Illinois, this Chevy is available here on eBay where $27,000 is the magic number so far.

More than 300,000 Malibu Sport Coupes left the assembly line in 1969. And a healthy percentage were Super Sports, though no claim is made that this car is or ever was one. Just a nice Malibu that has been treated to some upgrades over the years. Perhaps a 350 V8 once resided where a 468 lives today, and we’re told it and its 4-speed manual transmission were rebuilt by a prior owner five years ago. How powerful is it? The seller doesn’t say, but sources seem to agree the number is somewhere around 500 or more than one horse per cube.

This Chevy has a 12-bolt posi-traction rear end with 342 gears. The fuel pump and alternator are new and the tires are not far behind. This Malibu came with power steering and power front disc brakes. All the dashboard gauges have been replaced by aftermarket ones. The seller says that neither the heater nor windshield wipers have controls but will work (how?). We’re told this is a strong running car that should impress nicely at the stoplight face-off.

The rear quarter panels were replaced some time ago and the paint was redone in a blue-Ish/green color that looks good though has a few scratches. The interior looks sweet, though we don’t know if this car once had a bench seat where buckets are now. A 1970s SS-style steering wheel is in place of the original shiny plastic one that Chevy used in the late 1960s. This is not an SS-clone, so being a restomod would be a better description of the Chevelle’s current status.

Okay, show of hands,,,who would love to be driving this beautiful car around getting 27 mpg with a stovebolt 6? Does everything in this country have to be maximum results? I may not see it, but you will see a trend. People in the future would love an iconic ’69 Chevelle, but history has a knack of repeating itself, and the big motor will actually be a deterrent, just like in the 80s.

Based on the bidding, it looks like 468 (454 .060″ over), 4 speed & 12 bolt rear is somewhat desirable

Who ever buys this does not care about fuel mileage. No desire for a stove-bolt 6 whatsoever.
When it comes to cars like this why worry about matching number originality? Everything wears out and must be replaced so if it is kept in the theme of what was available or improved for safety such as disc brakes great.

Ok, I don’t even know what a stovebolt 6 is but I certainly can say that a 6 banger of any kind does not belong in a Chevelle, even if it is just a Malibu Sport Coupe. Nobody that I know would buy this car to drive daily and hope to get 27mpg lol it’s a bring out on a nice day and rip the tires or take to a car show and put away and it will be that same sought after car im 20 yrs
