The Skylark enjoyed an impressive 46-year run at Buick, encompassing six generations, usually at the top of the GM division’s mid-size food chain. It was named after a species of bird called the “skylark.” As the upscale version of the intermediate Buick, the first generation of the Skylark began in 1964 and continued through 1967, with a styling update in ’66. The seller has owned this nice ’67 edition for about a year and scraped the driver’s side door on his/her first outing in the automobile. Perhaps that caused said seller to lose interest, so the machine is available in Westhampton Beach, New York, and here on eBay where bidders have raised the ante to $7,100. After a styling refresh in ‘66, the Skylark was little changed in ‘67. Most of the adjustments fell into the category of safety, such as 4-way hazard flashers, shoulder belts for front passengers, and recessed controls on the dashboard. The Sport Coupe, like the seller’s car, accounted for sales of 41,000 units that year when equipped with a V8 engine. Standard fare in that department was a 300 cubic-inch unit with a 2-barrel carburetor. In this case, it was paired with an automatic transmission, likely Buick’s version of the 2-speed shifter.

We’re told this Skylark is a mostly original automobile at 72,000 miles. However, to perk things up, the seller has had the engine rebuilt, the brakes renewed with discs on the front, new shock absorbers, and the addition of a dual exhaust system. As a result, the Buick is said to run great and should provide a lot of smiles to the miles. Not ordered with a radio when the auto was new, the seller has added a period-correct AM tuner.

That takes care of the good news. Now for the bad news. The driver’s side door (and maybe more sheet metal) was damaged in a minor fender bender. So that will need to be repaired and hopefully, a partial application of new gold paint will match up with what’s on the rest of the car, which may be factory original. These are great automobiles – an old boss of mine had one years ago, changed the oil every 1,000 miles (he was a mechanic), and it still ran like new when it rolled over 100,000.
