Rare Double Ender: 1954 Spartan Royal Mansion

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We’ve featured a few of these incredible Spartan campers over the years, this 1959 Imperial Mansion was one of our most viewed articles of 2020. After looking at one in person, I understand why people are willing to spend big bucks on one, they are awesome! These larger campers came with all kinds of unique features. This one is especially impressive, as it’s a rare Double Ender Royal Mansion (more on that in a moment). You’ll want to take a closer look at this Spartan and be sure to bid if you’d love to have it. You can find it here on eBay in Oakland, California with a current bid of $15k.

Royal Mansions in nice usable condition are hard to come by no matter what features they came with, finding a double-ender in this nice of shape is downright incredible. Most Royal Mansions featured large windows just in the front of the camper, where the living room is situated. Double enders feature those same large windows in the front and in the back, where the bedroom is. This means you can enjoy those great mountain views from just about anywhere in the camper!

What’s really impressive with this camper is its condition. It still features its original kitchen appliances, which are all said to work correctly. All of the woodwork looks to be in great shape, but the seller admits the floor has been replaced and the shower tiled. There are also some dents on the outside of the camper, but the seller claims they can be popped out. Even with the dents, it would be hard to find another in better overall shape.

After owning this Spartan for a number of years, the seller decided to part with it after buying property on the top of a mountain and the road is too twisty and tight to get this 37-foot long camper to it. They claim it was a popular Airbnb rental during their ownership, so this might turn out to be a great investment if you aren’t planning on living in it full time. So, will you be living the Royal life in this Spartan?

If they can’t get it to their property I probably can’t get it to mine. When I measured I fugured I could get a 26′ Overlander up there but that was about it.
And its too bad too, this mansion is just outstanding! Max Fenig would be jealous!

I tried to explain to this seller, but this is not the “rare” model he claims it is, and that hundreds of Spartans with double observation-lounge windows were produced during the years 1953-1955. The Spartan story is a fantastic tale of American WWII and postwar manufacturing and I have spent the last 22 years collecting things pertaining to their trailer manufacturing. -Andrew Smith [email protected]

I have seen a few and the really hold up well. Tribute to bygone craftsmen that took pride in their work and products! I can visualize this behind that Clipper you offerred a few days ago pulling onto a spot at a campground and having everyone there coming over for a tour and a tale!

I’d totally live in this. Put it inside a modest, but decent sized steel building that would also hold 5 cars or so, on a few acres.

If I had a piece of land on a lake someplace, I would use it as a summer home.
This is one of the best examples of these that I have seen. (I have not seen many)

Breaking Bad comes to mind regardless who manufactured it.

These are cool! Saw two at the Gilmore Car Museum in August, during the Red Barns Spectacular.

      Bunky,

You are right, most campgrounds east of the ‘ol Miss river can’t handle something this big. In most states they are so heavy that legally it takes a 5 ton or larger truck, just to tow one. These were designed to be set up on a fairly permanent basis, not towed from campsite to campsite. The plumbing did not include holding tanks or fresh water tanks, expecting the trailer to be hooked up to an incoming water line and outgoing sewer line.

I have a smaller Spartan, it is considered a park model because it does not have holding tanks, so I think Bunky is correct

      ppwtiger,

I believe Bunky and I were referring to the larger Spartan Mansion versions, not the smaller Park ones.

I have a 1954 Spartan Royal Mansion. I have it on Craigs list right now in Napa Valley for 85K, but I most probably will not sell it. I am selling my property it sits on now, so I am looking for a plot of land to move it to and also build a large deck with a 24X36 Tuff shed for a “den type hangout” so I can live in it permanently.
