Rare A/C Equipped: 1976 Triumph TR6
My first introduction to the Triumph TR6 was a friend in high school that had a white TR6 just like this. It was a lot of fun and had surprising acceleration and handling. This one is said to been off the road for a number of years. The odometer reads 37k miles and the seller believes this to be correct. This TR6 ad was found by Mitchell G and it is listed here on Craigslist. The seller is asking $12,500. The TR6 is located near Boston, MA and was listed last month.
Besides the nice hardtop, one of the features of this car is factory air conditioning. Almost 95,000 TR6’s were produced from 1969 to 1976. The TR6 was powered by a 2,498cc inline 6 cylinder engine producing 104 hp and 142 ft/lbs of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. This is the last year of production and many consider it to be the most refined. The front bumperettes or over-riders, while a legislative requirement, are unattractive and could be removed but the bumper may need to be rechromed or polished.
The car appears to be in need of some restoration work. The paint has imperfections, and some sections may require stripping to bare metal for satisfactory results. The hardtop is in good condition, and the body panels have only a few minor bumps. There is a concern about rust in the engine bay, specifically on the passenger side near the firewall. This is a potential issue that might require further inspection. The wheels look nice but up-close they probably need to be refinished.
In summary, this Triumph TR6 will require some restoration work, particularly on the Code 19 paint and potentially in addressing rust in the engine bay. The ad also mentions that the car needs brake work. I would want to perform an in-person inspection to assess the full extent of any issues before making a purchase decision.

Wow, A/C in a TR-6! I owned a first year ’69 TR-6 when I lived on Florida’s West Coast. It was a beautiful looking and driving car that garnered lots of attention wherever I drove it. I left the top down all summer, parking it under my stilt home. It was a nice, comfortable ride for an early morning drive or after the sun went down, but those foot wells baked my legs and lower body once the sun baked off the morning dew and temperatures shot up. I sold the Triumph and got an air conditioned Miata. Loved that car too, but didn’t get near the looks that the Triumph did.
Maybe a good one for a total restoration if you want to have twice the Benjamin’s in it that it’s worth at the end. To me the footwell is much tighter than the comparable MGB.
Had a 75 with air. Bought it in Florida when it was a year old. Air always blew cold, but we always had trouble with wiring problems. Kept it until 87…wish I wouldn’t have sold it.
Had a 3b and a 4a. Both got me a wife. Still have wife from 4a.
Would love to have the 6, but a bum knee and still have wife #2 and being 80 precludes any new involvements.
Loved the 3b and4a. Tons of good memories.
Looks like fun!
