Rally Sport Project: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro
This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport looks like it was just in a fight and got a black eye. Yet, I don’t think the condition will deter someone from wanting to purchase it at a $12,900 buy it now price. This green, mean machine can be found here on eBay in New Egypt, New Jersey and has a clear title.
While the seller does have a number of decent photos of the car, sadly they have no photos of the engine. What they have listed is that it is a 327 cubic inch V8 with a Powerglide automatic transmission. We have to go on their word when they say that they were able to get the car started and idle with some fuel in the carburetor. However, they say the fuel tank will need to be replaced and the brakes do not work.
Inside is a factory original, black bucket seat interior. It complements the factory Rally Green paint quite nicely. Even though the car is in need of a full restoration, the interior seems to be quite complete. It is nice to see that it has not been parted out. There does seem to be a few broken pieces, like the weather stripping. While there are no photos, I wonder what the floors structural integrity is like.
According to the listing, the car has been off the road since the 1980s. While there are no photos of anything underneath the car, one can conclude that there will be rust, just as there is rust on random parts of the body. Sitting on the trailer with one headlight cover down and in rough shape, I start to hear the Sarah McLachlan song “In the Arms of an Angel,” and it makes me want to take this poor Camaro home.

I hear Metallica.
I hear Insane Clown Posse.
Sure have seen worse, but without pics of the underbelly and the mill you would need a good inspection. Needs resto and without the orig mill you could build the way you want. love the color. Good luck to the new owner!!! Rusty but doesn’t look like most of them that have been hacked.
Cheers

I’m with you GPC from this side it needs lower quarters and a trunk lid!! But I would like to see the underside!! Got to rip the beat up vinyl off the top as well!! Don’t remember when I saw one in this color last!! Interior looks pretty good for a 50+ year old car!!!
If you look at the sellers completed listing it demonstrates that he knows the importance of taking pictures of the undercarriage and trunk floor. If both were in decent shape he would have shown them in the ad since their inclusion would either make tha car more valuable or easier to sell. Omitting them speaks to their condition.m

Exactly my thought. Offer is too high without seeing more.
Reminds me of that movie “What Lies Beneath.” What does lie beneath those filthy carpets? And what does lie beneath that deck lid? Probably not what you would hope to see.
My grandparents had a 68 camaro in this green back when i was a kid. My grandpa would let me pull it out of the driveway. Then my uncle rammed it into the back of a semi trailer when he was drunk one night. Really wish they still had that car but i can’t say it would be in better condition considering we lived in Anchorage. Still if i had an extra 10k….
I had a 68 and a 72. living in the Midwest the rear quarters were shot in less than 4 years along with the rear shock towers. The rear widow seals were notorious for holding/leaking into the trunk and rear suspension. Looking at this one there is a lot of work to be done under the skin. $12k in with at least that much to get it back to credibility.
Gauge on console is interesting…haven’t seen that before. Is it factory? Or aftermarket for this application, or aftermarket adapted to this?
It’s an optional clock.

20-30k in repair/restoration. Conservatively. Gets you zero equity, but an awesome ride.
Tumblin Dice is what I hear, what I don’t see is the bottom, anyone out there wouldn’t bring home a girl without seeing her bottom rite?
