Rumble Seat Rod! 1929 Ford Model A Roadster
It’s not a fun subject to think about, and while I wish the rodding community was exempt from aging and getting older it happens here too, and sadly, the owner of this 1929 Ford Model A is facing some health issues which is necessitating the sale of his roadster. The plans were for the seller to eventually use the car in The Race Of Gentlemen, TROG for short, but unfortunately, those dreams aren’t going to happen and now it’s looking for a new home. A lot of work has already been put into this one, so if you’ve been in the market for vintage Model A with real Henry Ford steel it may be worth checking out. The car is located in Waukee, Iowa, and can be found here on eBay with an asking price of $19,000.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank reader T.J. for the great tip on this one! The story goes that the seller is no stranger to building cars for T.R.O.G., as he’s done others in the past, so it’s good to know that the result you see here was crafted by someone with quite a bit of prior experience. He also mentions that these are easy cars to work on, even for those with limited mechanical knowledge, so this one may be fairly simple to maintain and keep running even if the next driver doesn’t have as much time in the saddle as the current owner. The body is nowhere near show-quality condition, but that wasn’t the idea here, and I’m guessing it presents exactly as the builder envisioned for his original intention. It does look good and solid all the way around, with upgraded 1935 wheels and new chrome Ford hubcaps. That’s a new set of tires on there too.
The seller says the car starts, runs, and drives great already, and has a Scalded Dog manifold installed with an upgraded carburetor. There’s also a modern 12-Volt system in place for easy starting, and a new water pump was just added about a week ago, along with a 12V alternator and a new fuel pump. Several other parts are also included but not on the car yet, including automatic electronic ignition with a new coil, custom headers, a modern oil filter kit, plus a high-compression Rocket 428 aluminum speed head, the latter of which the seller is willing to knock a thousand dollars off the price if you’ll let him hang onto it!
Inside, things are stated to be in great shape, with no rips or tears including the rumble seat. The speedometer and lights are all said to be working fine, along with the mileage indicator, plus there’s also a new fuel gauge in the dash. The antique license plate is not included in the sale, but maybe if you catch the seller on a good day you can get him to throw that in too. There’s also the opportunity to make an offer if you find the asking price of $19k a bit optimistic. What are your thoughts on this 1929 Ford Model A, and how do you like the way the seller’s vision has turned out so far?

19K might be a stretch but if you didn’t want to race it putting the fenders back on and putting it on the street might be just as much fun.
Looks like this could be a fun ride.
I’m not a Ford guy but here’s yet another Ford I’d love to own. I’d install all of the update parts, rent a storage unit in town and drive it occasionally. Storage unit simply because I live on a farm on a gravel road. Trailer it? Never! It’s located only 250 miles away so a nice drive home on backroads. The price seems fair.
The idea of putting the fenders back on and using it for fun rides seems like a great idea. Not too many race tracks would allow it to run with out expensive safety modifications.
