Runs Great: 1990 Ford Mustang LX
Enthusiasts with limited skills or those considering a first restoration project can often feel overwhelmed by the prospect of countless hours of panel and rust repairs. This will lead some to spend their cash on a turnkey vehicle, while others might scrap their dream of classic car ownership. That’s where cars like this 1990 Mustang LX step in to fill the void. It is presentable in its current form, but lifting its appearance significantly would seem straightforward. If that sounds too tempting to resist, you will find this LX listed here on eBay in Annandale, Virginia. Bidding currently sits below the reserve at $9,200.
The history of this Fox-Body Mustang is unclear, but the seller states it wears its original Light Titanium paint. It looks presentable for those preferring a survivor-grade car, with a respectable shine and no significant panel damage. A closer inspection reveals a color mismatch between the front bumper and surrounding panels, a collection of minor chips in several locations, and paint deterioration on the back bumper. None of these problems require urgent attention, but addressing them should be a straightforward process perfect for a first-timer or someone seeking to develop their skill set. The seller doesn’t mention the presence of rust, and no issues are visible in the supplied photos. The plastic has survived extremely well, the trim and glass look good, and there are no problems with the original alloy wheels.
This Mustang offers a relaxed and entertaining driving experience, courtesy of its 5.0-liter “HO” V8, four-speed automatic transmission, and power assistance for the steering and brakes. The “HO” should deliver 225hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque, putting a sub-16-second ¼-mile ET comfortably within the driver’s reach. However, using a light touch with the right foot on the open road should deliver fuel consumption figures better than 20mpg. That means the buyer could expect to cover around 300 miles between trips to the gas station, making it an effective cross-country tourer. It seems this LX is in sound mechanical health. The seller indicates the engine runs well and that the transmission shifts smoothly. They don’t specifically refer to it as roadworthy, but the supplied information looks promising.
It is common to find cars of this vintage with tired and modified interiors. This Mustang has avoided that fate. The cloth seatcovers show no signs of wear or stains, with the remaining upholstered surfaces and carpet sharing that trait. The dash and other plastic components haven’t succumbed to age or UV rays, and while I wouldn’t class the inside of this car as being in as-new condition, it shouldn’t cause its new owner any shame. The door pockets show the typical sagging, but fitting some new elastic is a rewarding task the buyer could tackle in their home workshop. They can then hit the road in a classic featuring ice-cold air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, cruise control, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player.
This 1990 Mustang LX isn’t perfect, but it is a tidy and apparently solid classic in good mechanical health. Its few shortcomings don’t require immediate attention, and addressing them shouldn’t be complicated. If you have been searching for a first project candidate carrying the Blue Oval, maybe your search ends with this gem. It’s certainly worth considering.

Buddy bought one of these exactly like this for his Dad. I remember cruising in it, windows 🪟 down, even w the AOD it was a fun ride. They sound so good 👍 and the hatch seemed to provide ample room.
Back in ’91, it was between a ’90 LX 5.0, or a ’67 Corvette Stingray 427. Believe it or not? The Vette was cheaper than the Mustang. But what’s really sad, is that I bought the Mustang, because it was “more versatile.” My bank account is still kicking my butt, for that decision.
Nice ride. Be fun to tool around town in. At my age, the cold A.C. would feel real nice too. Looks like a cool ride for a likely reasonable price.
