Running Hemi Project: 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Modern American muscle doesn’t get much more mind-boggling than the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and anytime one comes up for sale as project material there’s plenty to get excited about, especially when the car is still running and driving.  This 2016 example may be a good prospect if you’ve got the skills to make the needed repairs yourself, just be aware that it’s been involved in two separate accidents with an insurance company deeming this Mopar a total loss, which resulted in a Salvage Certificate being issued in the state of Pennsylvania, where this one’s located in the borough of Bristol.

At first glance, the Hellcat doesn’t appear all that demolished, with the Experian report showing a left rear impact incident back in 2018.  Then earlier this year, the Challenger hit something more solid from the front, which resulted in an adjuster deciding the damage was going to cost more to repair than the company wanted to pay.  The seller thinks this one will be an easy fix, and mentions that at a minimum the future owner will need to source a hood, fenders, and a front bumper.  The damage from the first accident on the driver’s side quarter can likely be massaged out.

Probably the best news here is that the monster motor seems to have escaped unscathed, as a video is provided of the 707 HP Supercharged Hemi running, followed by somebody stepping on the gas pedal.  The sound is strong and sweet, and with just 51,000 miles of travel, there may still be some decent life remaining.  Granted, these may not have been the easiest of miles, but most buyers who choose a car with this kind of power want to utilize it whenever possible.

Fortunately, nothing in either mishap caused any airbags to deploy, and the interior still looks pretty good overall.  We get to see a photo with the dash in operation, with the Stereo still cranking out some Ozzy, so the best-case scenario is that nothing has happened that will affect any of the electrical components.  One nice option found here is the sunroof, always a fun feature for the occupants on summer days.

We don’t get to view any pictures of the platform, and the seller also mentions that every vehicle they sell that’s been involved in an accident is denoted as frame damaged.  However, he does state that the suspension appears all good, so hopefully, this is an accurate assessment.  If you’re seeing some potential here, this 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat can be found here on eBay, where the current bid of $19,155 hasn’t yet met the reserve.  What’s a reasonable as-is price to pay for this one?

I am an sure the 51000 miles were driven slow and easy.
Did the red key ever get left off?

This will need quite some work to repair and depending on reserve may not be worth it due to title branded as salvage.

    Good luck with sale.

Don’t kid yourself this car is worth 20 grand no problem who’s going to turn down a Dodge Hellcat the runs sweet & cabin looks great this won’t go cheap I’m thinking 40 grand! Or higher they stopped making them so this is as close to us mere mortals will have to get in on the fun.

Oh, they sure do go better than they stop, a common affliction. I get such a kick out of the brakes that would stop an Indy car, yet a skidding wheel is a skidding wheel. I say, nice going, yutz.

Seems they built this rig with too much “ram” and not enough “dodge.” Or the driver has a skill-to-ego ratio imbalance.

MOPAR GUY HERE! Uh, this is a hard pass even at $20K. Whoever didn’t know how to drive this once stellar vehicle, most likely beat the hell out of it. And what you CAN’T see is what worries me more than what you can.

There’s an old saying that a Fisher Body rep I knew taught me. “GOD never meant for there to be a hole in a horizontal panel”

The driveline alone is worth $25,000.

That’s if the driveline isn’t damaged. And given the loving care this car is showing, that’s too risky a gamble in my book. Just sayin’

Could different brands of tires on this car front vs rear have conmtributed to the accident? I would have thought the tires on a hellcat would have been wider.
The plastic looking door handles & gas cap cheapen the looks of the car.
Now’s the time to get chrome ones. & when will today’s “designers” learn that splashes of bright colors inside greyish interiors IMO look just terrible & tacky. They can be swapped out too.
& i am not crazy at all about those wheels & exposed brake parts either.

I would think the sunroof comments above apply to ANY car with one.

Parts car is a better option here. That drivetrain though probably beat up would be sweet in a non wrote off car.

I would say all the pictures were before any damage. But I could be wrong. No thanks.

If a running Hellcat with no engine damage gets totaled, then any common Charger / Challenger doesn’t stand a chance of ever getting repaired by an insurance company.

I am a personal friend of the seller. He is a top notch businessman and knows the collector car business better than just about anybody. Bought many Corvette parts from him throughout the years.
