Solid Survivor: 1964 Buick Wildcat
The Buick Wildcat started life in 1962 as a subseries of the Invicta, and by 1963 had replaced the Invicta as the mid-range full-size Buick (Invicta remained as a station wagon model only in 1963). The Wildcat was meant to give a little sporty flair and power to the Buick line. However, by 1964 it not only was available as a 2 door hardtop and convertible but also as a 4 door hardtop and sedan. Here is a 1964 Buick Wildcat 4 door hardtop for sale here on Craigslist in Farmington, Michigan. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Ikey H. for finding this car and bringing to our attention.
The Wildcat shared its 123-inch wheelbase and 219 overall length with the Lesabre but was dressed up a little nicer with a unique grille, chrome between the taillights, stacked ventiports, and ribbed molding just above the rocker area. This is a very clean car out of North Carolina with no rust. The car has had three owners since new.
The interior is in fair to good condition. There is a rip on the driver’s seat, which is finished in a two-tone blue vinyl. Although the radio is there, it has been removed. The housing around the radio is not in the dash, but hopefully, it comes with the car.
The engine in this Wildcat is the Wildcat 445. It is a 401 cubic inch V-8 that originally produced 325 horsepower and required premium fuel. While the seller states in the ad that the car has been driven 65,000 miles since new, the odometer is showing 73,175. It still drives great. The car is being offered for $6,400. How would you like to get behind the wheel of this Wildcat anytime you want?

I like this car. Very nice
What happened to the dash? If the seller (looks like a dealer) has the parts, why would he put it on the show room floor with that hole? Looks like the seat has a nice hole cut into it. Very weird, but overall a nice car.
PRNDL. Is it a leftover Dynaflow from 1963 or a ST300?
1963 was the last year for Dynaflow (PNDLR) . This probably has a Tubo400 trans.
Robert, you’re right on the Dynaflow quadrant, but this is a 2 speed. Definitely not a Turbo 400.
PRNDL is the correct quadrant for the 64 Buick “Super Turbine” 400 THM Transmission. L range was 1st or 2nd gear depending on vehicle speed. Somewhat similar to the early Ford-O-Matic.
I wonder how many people shifted into reverse by accident, possibly GETTING into an accident.
If someone is going to have a car like this photographed, I would think they would at least vacuum and scrub the Buick floor mats. Nice enough car and all, but presentation can go a long way with just a little effort.
We had a burgundy version of this car. Hated the speed monitor, though. If only the noise was a little less annoying than nails on a blackboard.
Bill and Ikey, thank you, these are good cars and this one looks like it only needs some freshening to get back on the road again. Great daily driver.
Great looking sedan for the money, and not much needed to sort out the known issues… seems like a good buy.
Interesting to compare the 64 Pontiac four-door from this morning for 15,900 to this cart at 6400 bucks.
Rare 4 door hard top.
Nice shape.
Price great. Grab it
