She’s A Standard: 1947 Model 8
We’ve seen a few of these cute little cars, but is always makes us laugh at their plain and simple name, it’s just Standard. As a matter of fact, it’s a rather fitting name for a car that is rather standard in what it has to offer. They are good looking cars and are fun, but they are also extremely basic. Listed here on craigslist Indianapolis, Indiana and priced at $5,500 this 1947 Standard Model 8 Roadster makes it a bit more interesting as a result of its rusted surface. From 1945 through 1948 the Standard Motor Company produced 383,139 of these model 8s, whicher were powered by a 1021 cc side valve four cylinder engine.
This car was originally sold in New York City, according to the seller. It is a left hand drive unit, so you won’t have to learn how to drive on the other side. The seller doesn’t know how many owners it’s belonged to or its mileage. There is said to be a good running motor that may have been rebuilt before the previous owner parked it in a barn. We don’t know when the car was parked in said barn, how long it remained there or when the car was pulled out. A video of the car running would be nice to see. The door cards are missing and the image on the far right is what a restored interior usually looks like. At some point someone added a gauge in front of the steering wheel which maybe an oil pressure gauge? Would you clear-coat this beauty or give it a proper paint job? Is she up to your Standards?
Cheers,
Robert

Greetings All,
Standard, the company that supplied the engine and chassis for my SS1, to be bodied by SS the company that is now Jaguar eventually became Standard-Triumph before the Standard was phased out.
The four-cylinder, being this late might be an overhead valve but it’s doubtful as Standard was pretty underfunded by this time.
They made a good basic car which meant more back then, not so much basic as unpretentious.
The name Standard in this case, refers to a flag. The hood ornament is of a Union Jack on a flag pole, to compliment the name Standard.
Oh look Doris, they found the car that Noddy and Big Ears lost.
