Short Bed 4×4: 1979 Ford F-150
If you were a Ford F-150, would you still have your original paint since 1979? Well, at least most of it? This 1979 Ford F-150 4×4 has spent almost all of its life in Northern California and has minimal rust. It still retains its original engine and sits on 35×12.50’s tires which gives it a nice aggressive look. The truck is listed here on eBay with only 1 day remaining in the auction. Currently, the truck is bid to $11,700. It is located in Chico, California.
The factory 351 cubic inch V8 engine was rebuilt in 2002 and has been stored until last year. The story is that the owner paid $3,500 for the rebuild and took it for a drive a week after the rebuild and the truck died. His wife got upset and he just parked the truck and it sat dormant for 18 years. The new owner rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel lines and cleaned out the fuel tank and now it runs great.
Quite a bit of work has been done on the interior including new door panels, new carpet and a dash pad. An aftermarket Grant steering wheel was added along with a Bluetooth stereo. The truck still sports its gun rack, US Flag headliner and Keep on Truckin Floor mats. The gauges are said to be working and the bench seat needs to be recovered.
The mileage on the truck is said to be 89,535. While the paint is original, it is worn through on the hood and roof. Some would call this patina. The body does have some dents and scratches while the driver side of the truck may have had some body work because it is a different shade of blue. The KC Lights mounted on the roll bar are functional and the truck is reported to be able to pass California emissions.

‘80’s Americana at its best illustration. Very believable example of Rural Small Town USA Truckin’.
As our BF reader J McLoughery (sp?) says in closing, God Bless America.
I find it humorous that what once would have been called a rusty old truck, now is considered to be a ‘nice’ truck having ‘minimal rust’.
That’s the type of “rust” you can deal with in 10 minutes with a couple of sheets of sandpaper. It’s not the sort of rust seen in the Midwest and east coast.

Dentsides are popular right now , I’ve picked up 3 of them lately to contrast with my 67-72 Chevies .Expect this nice piece to do close to $20k.
almost ‘the one’, needs short bed & step side. It IS four wheel drive tho. If it were I might do what the cheb guys do’n “400ize” it (bore’n crank). The largest production ‘square motor’ made. As it’s “my fav lookin vehicle” even above lotta cars (6th gen, p/u, bronk, etc). Just needs the 2 18 inch race stripes ina darker color. Mmm, yershhh~

Boy oh boy, does this one take me back. In 76 I bought a new Ford F-100 4×4 short bed step side. Loved the looks of the 70s ford short beds. Sadly that truck didn’t love me and it turned out to be the worst truck I ever own, nothing but Chevy trucks since then and never looked back. But I still like the looks of this 79.
