Shortbed Squarebody: 1984 Chevrolet Pickup
Up for sale is a 1984 Chevy short bed that is looking well, running great, and is priced to sell. As you can see in the photo, the truck is mostly rust free which is surprising because it is located in Bath, New York. You can buy this truck for $4,600 or you make an offer. It has a clean title, but no mileage or VIN is listed. The seller is open to questions if you have them. You can view more on eBay.
In the photo, you can see a dirty 305 cubic-inch V8 that is connected to an automatic transmission. You can hop in and enjoy it immediately because it runs and drives as a reliable old pick up should. The choke is not functioning properly and the seller has wired it open. Hopefully, that is a simple fix if you end up purchasing it, but at least it is working for the time being.
A simple but functional interior awaits you in the cab. The bench seat appears to have been covered or reupholstered. There are a few missing pieces but that is a minor issue. Browsing through an LMC Truck magazine or website will provide you with every part you need. Square body truck popularity is to thank for that and this truck could be a great investment. It will be important to look at the underside and frame of the truck to ensure structural integrity.
Which direction would you go with this truck? Would you restore it or modify it? That is a tough decision in my mind. I would lean towards making it a sleeper. Working with the engine, drivetrain, and brakes and suspension to get them performance-oriented would be my first step. Since the rockers, floors, and cab corners are not rusting out, the body can wait a little longer before attention is given to it. The truck will develop a personality at that point which will help decide what you can do with the body and paint. Until then, for a running and driving C10, at this price, you should be calling this seller immediately.

I see this as a scrapper, not worth the time to repair, fairly common truck.
In the 80’s they were common. Now days they are a hot ticket. It’s easily worth $8000 to $10000 in this market.
I would drive it as is, plus any repairs. Why is it most guys want “more” performance, big engines, etc? I know it’s exciting, but lots of unnecessary money spent as well.
It’s a good driver the way it is!! Good daily driver!! A friend of mine bought one new but it was 4×4!! The short bed and four wheel drive made it an impressive truck!!
