Save From the Elements: 1965 Lincoln Continental
In 1965, Lincoln was still using the body introduced in 1961. The wheelbase had been stretched from 123 inches in 1963 to 126 inches in 1964. The convertible was still being offered with suicide doors, but a 2 door hardtop would not be offered until 1966 with a major restyle. Here is a 1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible for sale here on eBay in Longmont, Colorado.
Updates for 1965 included a flat horizontal grille, wraparound turn signals/parking lights, a new hood where we start to see a hint of the domed hood that was so popular on Lincolns through 1989, as well as several other Ford products. The car looks to be in good condition with no dents or rust. The convertible top appears to need replacing. There’s no mention if it is working or not. The car could use a paint job, or it could be left as is.
The 1965 Continental also received new taillights and a revised bumper and trunk accents. The car has been garaged since the late 1990s which is the last time it was running. It is now covered outside and the seller would like to pass it on so it can be restored before it is ruined by the elements. There is no picture of the engine, but it is not frozen, however, the carburetor and valve covers are off.
While the exterior looks pretty good, the interior will need some help. The leather seats are cracked and in some places completely torn. The dash appears to have an indent above the clock, but no cracks. There are 118,000 miles on this car. Are you looking for a project? Bid up already to 6600 bucks ! Wow! Talk about a wing and a prayer. See the oil and anti freeze containers in the car on the back seat floor.
Awesome styling! A rectangle! The ford square-mont had more style. …and that’s not saying much.
I’ve never really been a fan of this body style, but I think this one’s interesting just because it’s a four door convertible. I’d own it.
Looks like it has the potential to be a summer cruiser but not without it’s cost. I expect it will take a fair amount of time and money to get it back on the road.

My favorite year of this model is 1966-67.
I’m with you Mastro. While the tops on these cars can be a nightmare to repair, the 66 and 67’s were much more reliable since they used 2 motors instead of one for the top function. I’ve had 3 67’s and one 66 and never had issues with the tops working.

I’m happy to hear your comment about the top systems on these cars [and the T-birds & ’57-59 retractable Fords]. If someone has a basic understanding of electro-mechanical systems, a wiring diagram, & the factory repair manual for the convertible tops, these are easy to maintain, diagnose, and repair. Most parts are available either as good used, or new.
And yes, I agree, the 66-67 versions are the best of the bunch.
