Same Family Since New: 1954 Ford F-250 Truck

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Two things jumped out pretty quickly that I considered positive about this 1954 Ford F-250 Pickup, one being the fact that it’s been in the same family since the day it was driven home for the first time.  But it’s also still a lot original, which could end up making it a tough decision for the next owner to just keep the pickup a driver or go all Restomod on it.  Maybe a good compromise would be giving it a light restoration, but whatever you’ve got in mind the truck seems like a good starting point.  It’s in Sacramento, California, and can be seen here on eBay, where bidding is up to $3,833 with the reserve still not met.

The story goes that a rancher in California purchased the pickup new, and it was subsequently passed down through the next three family generations.  But the time has now come for it to be let go, so the great-grandson is trying to find it a good home.  The pickup is said to have spent its entire life in the California Valley, and the truck is claimed to have never seen salt.  While it’s not specified if that’s the original finish or not, if the exterior has ever had a respray it was probably decades ago, as the patina looks like it’s been years in the making!  There is a bit of surface rust here and there, with the seller pointing out the rear corner of the cab on the driver’s side as the most significant, but even this area is said not to be rusted through.

Under the hood is an inline 6-cylinder engine, which we do get to see running for a few seconds in a video provided in the listing by the seller.  No word on whether or not that’s the original motor, but the drivetrain is stated to have been serviced recently and repairs have been made as they came up over the years, with one newly replaced item being the gas tank.  A couple of unusual things pointed out are the topper, which is a vintage all-metal unit from Atlas Manufacturing out of Sacramento, and there’s also a hydraulic-over-electric trailer brake converter, although that particular part is not currently operational.

The truck’s interior is looking pretty much original, with only the headliner and seat mentioned as having been redone.  The floor pans are said to be good, and hopefully, that’s just some surface rust under the mats.  Plus we also get to see a couple of photos from the south side, and things down below appear to be reasonably solid as well.  This one seems to have some good possibilities, including just leaving it like it is right now.  What would you do?

Or the 64 chevy p-up family that left their heirloom in the mud for years to rot.

At first I thought the paint was someone’s attempt at camo but it looks like a very old respray decades ago worn away. I’d go thru it for road worthiness and drive as is.I happen to like the bed topper. makes it look unique and blends in nice with the era of the truck.Really cool old truck for sure and I ‘d love to have it.Be interesting to see how high the $ goes.

Sure would love to own this truck! Wish I know the reserves. I’ve been lusting for a 51-55 ford pickup for years. This truck is a good candidate for a full on restore! At which is what I would do. The pictures I see there are two spots with rust through and or close to it. The engine most definitely would get a rebuild. If I didn’t have 20 payments left on the house I’d more then likely would buy this truck. She’s a beautiful lady to me.

bidding went to $5701 and did not sell. Owner will relist but not back until March 23rd which may delay shipping. I sent him a message regarding the truck but he never responded. Probably wants an outrageous #.
