From 1966 to 1969, however, the 396 was the big dog in Chevy’s mid-sized muscle machine, and the seller states that this Chevelle retains its original rear-end, specific to the 350 HP 396. The 396 actually grew to 402 cubic inches in 1970, but retained the “396” moniker for marketing reasons. Buyers must weigh the excellent condition against the non-original motor, but someone looking for a solid driver for cruising and the occasional smoky burnout, the 454 may be just the answer. Nice complete car–I don’t like the fact that they sprayed what looks like undercoating or bedliner underneath. for 17 large I’d want to inspect thoroughly. Inspection on a lift mandatory. I also know that these frames rust out by the body mounts- water gets in there and has no way of draining. Good luck to the new owner. Caveat Emptor…

It would be nice if there was documentation. The dash looks like its reproduction and that style of master cylinder wasn’t used on disc brake cars. It may be real, but as said above, caveat emptor.

LS-6???? Prove it!!
Rocco, the seller doesn’t claim LS6 it is just in the above write up as the top dog engine of 1970. This is an alleged 396 car. If the stampings are true to the trans and rear it could be a real big block car but the condition and lack of original motor really hurt the value to me.

Very nice example! However I prefer the looks of the 60s SS,myself! That’s a Ford guy saying that too! I knew a guy that had I believe it was a 65 or 66! The engine was supposedly original to the car and roll your own gears on the floor! I just remembered that it was fast! Yeah, and a little jealous too! :-)
Wierd one on the ’70 or ’71 396 was the fact it was still called an SS396 even though the engine displaced 402 cubes and then had a “400” decal on the air cleaner. I’ve seen em.
I like this SS as a driver type of car, only parade it would be in is the one to the strip! Run it like the angry madcap it is. Ha!
The 70 is the best looking of them all and with the highest hp of all time . There are easy ways to tell if its a big block car or not as its not rocket science. The best is when they are cloned its easy to do as they look the same except for the numbers .
