When we come across a needy Alfa Romeo Spider, it’s almost guaranteed to be rusty. And when that needy Alfa is located in the snow belt, you can be sure there are rot holes to be found. Well, in the case of this 1981 Alfa Romeo Spider listed here on Facebook Marketplace for $7,800 near Quincy, Massachusetts, it’s clearly bucking the trend as it is seemingly rust-free and mostly solid throughout with just 33,000 miles on the clock – it even supposedly runs good.

The Spider has never been all that appreciated by the enthusiast class, especially for those cars made after the middle 70s. The beauty of this model is that you can buy in quite cheaply and have a legitimate Italian convertible in the garage; the downside is it’s not likely to appreciate much, even if you budget for what is likely a fairly steady maintenance diet. The seller’s car is a pleasing color combo of sky blue over tan, and the limited interior photos appear to show a cabin in decent order with some exposed wiring visible.

What’s most surprising is how solid it appears to be underneath. This Alfa wears a Massachusetts tag but I truly wonder if it lived somewhere else previously. It’s simply too sold underneath to have been used extensively in New England. Of course, it’s possible that the Alfa was from Florida or Arizona and belonged to a snowbird who spent their summers in the northeast while keeping the car elsewhere in the winter months. The exhaust system isn’t even rotted out.

The body looks super straight in photos, with all the standard trim still attached and the OEM wheels bolted on. Of course, this Spider is from an era where the unsightly safety bumpers were tacked on in place of the earlier model’s beautiful chrome pieces; aesthetics alone can turn people off from buying this generation of Spider, with the later models with its body-colored bumpers doing a better job of masking the proverbial park benches on either end. The price seems fair for a solid Spider like this that runs and has low mileage.
