Stunning Survivor: 1966 Dodge Charger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

When either my son or I want to start an argument with each other, we talk about our favorite Dodge Charger. He goes for the 1968 to 1970 models, while my favorite is the 1966 and 1967. These cars have two of my favorite features, hidden headlights and wall to wall taillights. That fastback roofline looks as good on this car as any out there as well. Here is a 1966 Dodge Charger for sale here on Craigslist in Bella Vista, Arkansas. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Pat L. for letting us know about this one.

When the Charger was introduced, it competed pretty head on with the Rambler Marlin, but I also felt it fell somewhere between a Ford Thunderbird and a Mustang. It was only offered in a fastback model in 1966 and 1967. There are those taillights that I like, but if you look closely, this “Charger” has become a “Charge”. That is about the only flaw I can see in this car. There is no rust anywhere on this car from Oklahoma. The car has the standard original wheel covers. The red paint appears to be in great condition.

What a wonderful looking red interior. It’s like a sheet fell over the interior anytime anyone drove or rode in it. It absolutely shows no wear. This picture could be from the new car brochure. The car also has bucket seats in the rear where the front center console extends. The rear seats fold as well as the trunk panel to give a long cargo area. This Charger has air conditioning.

The engine is the standard 318 cubic inch V-8 engine that originally produced 230 horsepower. It runs great and can be driven anywhere. The car has 79,233 miles. The owner is asking $20,500. That’s not chump change, but for a car in this condition of this kind and era, the price is probably reasonable. Consider the cost of restoring vehicles and you would come out ahead with this one. Are you ready to charge forward with this Charger?

Would gladly pay the price for this one than mess around with some rusty basket case that will end up costing you twice as much in the end.

These are cool, but the ’68-70 models had image and aggressive styling in spades, more than these early Chargers or the third generation. Of course that’s just my opinion.
Hope everyone has a great New Year!🙆⚡

I know this is a series one car, but if you are interested in Chargers check out the last episode of Graveyard Cars; it was all about series two and three Chargers.

Easily the best interior of any mainstream production car of the 1960s. Four individual bucket sets, often with a full-length console and the electro-luminescent instrument cluster (not shared with the Coronet), I bet Chrysler Corporation was hard-pressed to have made money on the cars sold.

I did a story on a real 1966 Hemi Charger for Mopar Muscle a few months back that can be viewed here.

And I took the photo above at a closed up Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Northern California. I changed the color of what was probably the Imperial panel of the sign to red, and added the Dodge logo from that era in Photoshop, making it a rural Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge dealership.

Don’t forget about the rear seats folding down. You could go to the lumber yard and bring home the materials you needed to turn your basement into a living room without having to borrow your brothers truck. The movie “Big Fish” featured a Charger just like this one.

Love them. There was a silver one where I lived after I left home, always impressed me. The only issue I have with this one is the same with all of them, that fastback is like the 69 Torino GT I once owned: next to impossible to parallel park without either a lot of room or touching something along the way.

Nice car, seems almost too cheap when you consider what some guys are asking for junk , buy the best one you can afford.

Dang I’ve missed a few good one’s over the years include a Hemi in my early 20’s – ya know – when the money wasn’t there but the car was. Always preferred the 66/67 over the later but that’s just me – 1967 over the 66 for some reasons. Nice one here….maybe some day……..

Never did care for the 66-67 charger body style. Looks like a nice car for the money if you like the style.

The ‘66 is the only Charger I’d want to own. This is a beautiful example, but I’d want a big block. Of course, these days it’s possible to get big block power out of that 318, so maybe I’d go that way with this one. The price seems like a bargain for a Charger in this condition.

My first car was a 67 Charger, took my driving test in it and drove it to college when I started. Turquoise blue with white vinyl roof and interior. I FAR prefer the early ones, sleeker much rarer to see on the street .it cost Dodge a lot more to make than the 68 etc as well.I wish I could afford to get another 67 now, 383 or 440. I had the 318 and its a good thing then, but now I want more power.
