Huge Stash of GM Cars in California

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Most car collectors migrate to specific brands, nameplates, model years, body styles, and so forth. Such is the case for these 10 vehicles that are located together in Clearlake, California, and available here on craigslist. The seller is largely a Chevrolet fan, as witness the assortment of Camaro’s and Chevelle’s. But there’s a couple of Oldsmobile’s in the mix, too. All 10 vehicles are classified as projects with rust and may or may not be complete. Some are inside, while others are out enjoying the California sun. The seller organizes them by asking price, so we’ll look at them by model. Thanks, rex m, for the heads-up on this stash.

There are two Camaro’s, both from 1967 and one is a real-deal Rally Sport. The seller considers each to be a rolling chassis and can be had for $12,500 or $14,000. In addition, there are four Chevelle’s, including an SS, a basic Malibu (?), a station wagon (with an LT1 motor), and a 300 series model, all ranging from $6,000 to $13,000. Both the Oldsmobile’s are the desirable Vista Cruiser, from 1970 or 1972, with the older one going for $7,500 but the newer for $14,000 because it was treated to an LS swap. Rounding out the assortment are two trucks that are not pictured, an oldy goldy GMC flatbed with a hydraulic dump-bed for $6,000 or a ’72 C20 which is said to be a good running truck for $7,500. Also available are some spare motors and transmissions which may or may go with some of the vehicles listed if you twist the seller’s arm.

I wonder what the GMC model year is?
    Might have my interest.

Seller appears to be a little thin skin. When dealing with general public you have to keep a sense of humor for sure.

This description intentionally lists nothing. i might repost some of my hoard of classic muscle cars at a later time, but at the moment I’m burned out by lowballing tire kicking window licking broke internet shoppers wasting my time with their free government stimulus pocket change. We can play later when I got more time for games.

I live a couple of hours away from this guy. I called him about five years ago on the same vehicles. And he keeps raising his price.
He relists them about every 6 months or so.
His children will end up with them.

When I read this Barn Find ad my first thought was why do people hoard these vehicles to the point that they basically become useless hunks of rusted metal, and my second thought was this is why the hobby is impossible anymore. $14,000 for a rusted hulk that’s been sitting for decades. It makes no sense to me.
IMO, these cars should not be hoarded away but driven. When I had my collection, I drove a different car to work everyday. They didn’t just sit in my garage collecting dust. And when I sold them, I didn’t ask for a down payment on a house.
It makes me sad what this hobby has become. It’s not about the cars anymore.
    Anyone else feel this way?

    Rant finished

He keeps the good stuff in his garage. The ones behind the fence are for petting.

JB, and anyone else, I read an article on Google a little while back that California is phasing out ALL gas stations in the state by 2035. That gives us only 13 years to come up with a solution on running these classics. Unless we turn them into electric cars. God forbid. Maybe then these ridiculous prices will finally fall to something reasonable.

Please please please stop spreading ridiculous lies like this. Neither idiotic California nor any other state will stop selling gasoline. The very idea is absurd and laughable. There are MILLIONS of gasoline powered vehicles in California. They aren’t going away in 13 short years either. The average age of a car on the road today is closing in on 12 years!! THINK before you repeat nonsense.

I understand that misinformation can be disheartening and in our modern world of social media the volume of it is sometimes staggering. So I can appreciate countering those statements in order to help us all stay better informed, but it would seem that on this forum where we interact as club members or at least acquaintances with a mutual interest, it would be more enjoyable if responses were at least respectful and not totally condescending toward the folks whom we have a difference of opinion. The lack of common courtesy from the days limited to face to face interactions is another thing that has mushroomed exponentially since digital and social media have become the norm for routine communication.

In the meantime the price of electricity is going to go up five times what we are paying now. I read that about three years ago. I’m not clear on if that was on a National scale or for the Portland, Or area. California already gets much of their electric power generated in Oregon. The cost of charging electric cars is going to go way up in a short period of time. I hadn’t heard about the zero gas stations by 2035 in CA. That helps confirm what I read about prices going up by that much. Could be more.

    Thank you, AAAZDAD,
At least you have class. I was trying to come up with an answer for Mr. Know-it-all but decided to let it go and hope his day improves.

I thought after my reply that some will take it as though I was being crabby. I really just hoped I might provoke some thoughts regarding how folks here sometimes treat each other. I like to think of car crazy enthusiasts as a group of fun loving people with a common interest and for the most part folks who have mutual respect for one another. I hope you have a great evening!

Ps. I am a Cadillac fanatic and always enjoy your posts.

10 cars is not a huge stash by any stretch of the imagination.
