Stored 37 Years: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Mustang sales began to decline in 1967 as competition had entered the new “pony car” segment in droves. To bolster interest in the Mustang, Ford introduced the Mach 1 in 1969, a combination performance/appearance model that went on to account for nearly 25% of sales. But overall demand for the Mustang continued to fall off. This first-year Mach 1 is (or was) a one-owner car in storage since 1987. It runs now but has a few cosmetic defects for the experience.

The Mach 1 had a 351 cubic inch V8 as standard equipment in 1969, but it started with a 2-barrel carburetor. You could step up the power based on your budget and how heavy your right foot was. The Mach 1 came in only one body style, the new SportsRoof (another term for fastback). More than 72,000 Mach 1s were delivered in 1969 out of a pool of 300,000 total Mustangs built.

From the photos provided, it seems this Ford was buried in a garage for a long time. It was freed from its captivity and then cleaned up. The tires are new, and the car runs, so some work must have been done relating to fuel delivery from sitting so long. This Mustang has a 4-speed manual transmission paired with an M-code 351 with a 4-barrel. No mention is made of matching numbers. The odometer reads 74,000 miles, so it could go either way.

Save a couple of wrinkles, the body seems okay, but the paint is rather burnt in places. The interior looks quite good except for a crack in the dashpad. The seller suggests this Ford is at a good place to start a restoration, though the cost of the basic subject will not come cheap at $35,000 here on Facebook Marketplace. The vehicle is in Sunland, California and no trades will be considered. Our thanks to T.J. for another great tip! Would you like to take this Mach 1 home with you?

A Black Jade manual transmission 1969 Mach 1, a highly desirable car to me. Maybe not rusty? Still, is $35k the going rate for one which needs lots of work?

Reading the Facebook Marketplace is a bit comical. It almost gives off a “scam” feel, based on the many spelling errors. You know, the original owner still has the ‘pink sleep.’

Bob if you look on Fast finds there is a listing for an
63k “organically” Miles 1970 Plymouth Duster 340 listed.
Everyone knows that Oraganically grown miles is much more healthier for your car than just regular miles!!!

Autofill is the domain of the Stupid and Lazy – a dreadful affliction affecting an alarming proportion of the general population.

@ccrvtt, if you think we are lazy now, buckle up. AI is coming and with it, an entire generation of folks who will take stupid and lazy to new levels.

Ugh. Black Jade is one of my least favorite colors on any car anywhere. It’s the color of sewer sludge.

Black Jade isn’t for everyone, but I’m a fan of it. Great post, enjoy seeing cars in this condition.

Black Jade… our favorite color on these cars. Our neighbor across the road had a brand new one, when I was a kid. Always remember it.
