Stored 22 Years! 1987 Nissan 300ZX Project

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Nissan 300ZX is a successor of the Datsun 240Z which debuted in the U.S. in 1970. The 300ZX was built in Japan from 1983 to 2000 but sold in America from 1984 to 1996. Different trim levels were offered as were versions of its V6 engine. This 1987 ZX is being sold at an auction on 8/17/24 as part of a massive estate sale. We’re told this car has been up on blocks in a garage for the past 22 years. The seller (the auction company) claims it’s one of the nicest original “barn finds” they’ve run across.

As the story goes, the car’s owner and his wife were out on a ride and got a speeding ticket. Perhaps he determined it was too much car for them and put it into storage in 2002. That’s when the sports car was 15 years old and only had 53,000 miles on the odometer. It may not have been touched over the years, so everything in the vehicle is ancient now. A cleansing of the fuel system and new rubber bits like tires will surely be needed as it does not run.

The 300ZX was quite popular and the U.S. was a huge market for the company. Three trim levels were offered (SF, GL, and GLL) but we don’t know which applies to this ZX. The 3.0-liter V6 could produce 205 hp if turbocharged (we don’t know if there’s a turbo with this car as we can’t see what’s going on under the hood).

If you’re interested in this car or anything else that is part of the estate, you can check It out here. The automobile will go to the highest bidder so be ready to act on it. Located in Montague, Texas, there doesn’t appear to be a reserve on this Nissan, so maybe it can be had as a bargain if you’re into these little pocket rockets. We found this interesting tip here on craigslist.

If there was a turbo, there would be a small hood scoop. This one is just the standard FI model.

Was the dust covered up or did it penetrate the “cover”???

My question is why even show it with the cover on? And fifty guns? Yeah it’s Texas. As far as I can tell it’s still for sale.

EVERYTHING is collectible, including guns. I know someone who collects bourbon, has thousands of bottles, yet doesn’t drink bourbon.

These used to be the best bang for the buck in the market. I bought an ’84 with 80k miles in 2004 for $800 and got five years from it in basic transportation with a fun factor of 11! The “market” is so skewed to insanity that some dilettante will pay $10k for this car. I guess I have devolved to this mindset as I recently bought a rusted low mileage XK for my getaway car. Automobilia is truly a personal expression of unique stupidity.

Who parks a sports car for getting a speeding ticket?

I love these cars and have had one just like it. The story as to why it was put away sounds a little suspect.

    Look at the steering wheel.
This is the GLL model with All the toys.
The voice tells you “Fuel Level Is Low”
At 135 the front end will float.

Had an 84 Datsun/Nissan. Nice Grand Tourer, not a pocket rocket.
