Stored 42 Years: 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Introduced in 1964, the Chevy Chevelle would quickly become the automaker’s second most popular nameplate. After a restyle in 1968, the Chevelle sold more than 500,000 units in 1969, though that also included the El Camino pickup. The seller’s Malibu is one of 32,000 to have four doors and a V8 engine. This car has been in storage since 1982, and its running condition is unknown.

This Chevy is said to have been found in a hoarder’s garage where it’s sat for four decades. Yet the seller has been able to get the car titled into his/her name. We’re told it’s a V8 with an automatic transmission, so we’re guessing that equates to a 307 with a 2-speed Powerglide. There were other choices, but no photos of things under the hood are included to help figure that out.

We’re told the paint is green, so we’re going with Frost Green. The seller says it needs a complete restoration or it could be a parts car. The photos don’t show any outstanding rust, and we don’t know the condition of the interior (again, no photos). Perhaps the paint would respond to some wax and the interior to a thorough cleaning, but since the Chevy has four doors, will anyone get excited enough to do all of that work?

At 70,000 miles, this looks like a Grandma’s car that was parked when she quit driving. Or some mechanical issue took it off the road. Whatever the case – and there’s always a story – this Malibu is available here on craigslist and in Hamilton, Ohio, where the asking price is $4,500.

Couldn’t be bothered taking better pictures, or push it outside and hose it down.

I’m inclined to agree with Zen. If you
have an old car you want to sell, get
some friends to help you push it out
of the shed, and hit it with a pressure
washer! That way, you can either decide to keep the car yourself, or sell
it on to a guy like me that really digs
4-doors. Sure, the twice doors hog
most of the spotlight, but don’t fixate
on them as is the case today, broaden
your horizons and you just might get
a really nice car that you never knew you wanted. As for this car, it should
be very easy to revive it as these were
delightfully simple cars to work on.
And while it’s not a powerhouse, the
307 is a solid reliable engine that will last a very long time if you treat it right. Just pull the plugs, add Marvel’s Mystery Oil to the cylinders to see if the engine is free. And while
you’re at it, clean the gas tank, install a new fuel pump, and rebuild the carb. You can still get most anything
you’ll need for one of these at your local NAPA. Get it running and drive
    as is.

Kenneth I completely agree with your thoughts on this. Even down to the fact that I especially like it because it’s a 4 door. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nice 2 door but everyone and their pet pig has one or wants one. I like to stand out some. When new cars like this with 4 doors didn’t stand out, they were mainstream. Now 4 door clean cars of this general vintage certainly are NOT mainstream. Now days people accept and appreciate muscular 4 door cars right out of the show room. The Aussies beat us by decades for appreciating muscle 4 doors.

Without any pictures detailing inside & outside might help you decide to bid on this car. Then figure out what’s needed under the hood.
