Sprite Not Included: 1969 BMC Flatbed
Produced in England, this flatbed was used as a lumber delivery truck. It was imported to California over 20 years ago and now parked in Lawndale, California. It is currently listed here on eBay with a bid of $1,425 and a nice Sprite parked on the bed! Thanks goes to Jim S for the tip!
This is said to be a two owner truck. The person who purchased from the lumbar yard in England converted it into a little race car flatbed. There are some custom aluminum ramps included for loading your racer.
This truck is powered by a 1500cc BMC engine with a 4-speed gearbox and 83,268 on the odometer. This is a go slow truck, but you can get your speed fix in whatever race car your hauling on it! The brakes and fuel system were just serviced and the clutch was rebuilt.
The owner/s says there is some rust and they have some newer side curtains for if from BMC.
The truck, according to the owner/s, is very solid and roadworthy. This is not probably ideal for long freeway drives, best for local runs. There can’t be many of these BMC flatbeds around and it sure would work great to haul your race car, motor bikes, lumber, and small Barn Finds. You’d definitely have the only one at the track or drag strip! It doesn’t get much better then this! And don’t you love those Minilites?
Motor-on,
Robert

Sweet, what is the weight limit on minlights ?
Minilites !. Nice truck.
Very cool truck, I love the unusual Barn Finds. This certainly would be a conversation piece at any car show / race track.
So cool for the right person. Great point on the weight limitations on the wheels.
I’d hope long runs ARE PRACTICAL otherwise what’s the point?
Neat little truck. With a load capacity of about 1200 lbs that Sprite is pushing the limit. This truck had GVW of only 4000 lbs. That is less than the old mini pick ups of the 70’s and 80’s
Neat truck however you’d need a car hauler to haul this car hauler to the car show, or leave a couple of days early. I’m thinking resto mod to make it useable. Maybe fit the cab and scripts onto a 1 ton chassis with a Diesel engine.
I’d like them even better if they were called Minilites.
Haha good catch Vanman! My bad! All fixed!
Nice find! Too bad about the load capacity – otherwise it would be perfect for hauling classic Minis, they are only 10′ long and only weigh about 1,500 lbs. Add the weight of the driver and the mandatory AAA towing card, jumper cables, tools, spare parts and cell phone and…
Off the track a little… but related to load capacities…
Staged photo, of course. Al, the owner of blue classic Mini pickup tows this aluminum gooseneck trailer all over the country, but not carrying loads like this. Loaded the red ’61 Mini pickup on the back just for the photo at a Mini Meet West in southern California a number of years back. The RWD red truck is powered by a small-block Corvette 327 V8, but pretty much the only thing British left on it is the shell. (Later sold off the Consignment pages of my website, more pics are there.) Way beyond scary-fast…
Now back to the (definitely not scary-fast) BMC flatbed and its load capacity…
