Pontiac Graveyard Find: 80 Firebirds, GTOs & Grand Prixs

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

As a teenager, I remember going to salvage yards to find parts and seeing all kinds of American wrecked muscle cars. Many thanks to Max Utterback who sent us this tip for a graveyard full of 1960 to 1980 Pontiac project cars and donor cars. Plus the graveyard contains a number of 1990 to as new as 2008 other makes and models that are being liquidated. The cars are located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and most of the cars are listed below $900. There are also a sprinkling of Chevrolets including Camaros, Chevelles and Corvairs as well as Oldsmobile, Buick, Chrysler, Ford, Mercedes Benz, Mercury and a Saab.

The majority of the cars are Pontiacs with a number of A body and F body project cars. You can see several 1968-1972 LeMans and GTOs in the forefront of this picture and in the back is a 1977 Pontiac Firebird. The GTOs include a 1968 4 speed with no engine. two 1969 GTOs (of which one is a convertible), a 1970 GTO roller and a 1971 GTO roller. Sprinkled in are three 1966 LeMans and an occasional Tempest. The only Chrysler products are a 1966 4 door New Yorker for $700 and there is also a 1990 Cadillac with a V8 for $750.

The salvage yard also has a number of parts including front and rear bumpers and stacks of Pontiac Rally II wheels. Many times during a restoration it is cheaper to buy a donor car to pull parts off of instead of trying to buy the parts individually. The most expensive car listed is a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix. It is blue and listed for $1,499. As shown below, there is a decent looking 1977 Grand Prix covered in leaves. The seller is asking $799 for this one and it is said to have a L78 400 cubic inch V8 engine which was standard on the SJ package. The hood is rusted through but the the grills and maybe the interior are still in good shape.

Most of the cars in the pictures appear to be 2 door coupes but there are some 4 door models. The year of the cars are written on most of the windshields. The more modern cars include a 1985 AMC Eagle, two mid 1980 Mercedes Benzs and two 1985 Chevrolet Camaros. All of these cars are listed for $600 to $700. There is a 1995 and 1999 Ford Ranger and a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 along with a 2003 Mercury Marquis.

If I were there, it would be of interest to locate the black 1979 Pontiac Trans Am for $750 and see if it is an X or K code car. The liquidation of this salvage yard is listed here on Facebook Marketplace. The listing has been posted for a week. If you are in the Bethlehem area, it would be worth checking out because the listing states that there are a number of engine blocks and seats available for sale too.

Now those photos brings back some memories!
We have less space here in Europe so wrecks were stacked high often very precariously. In the sixties and seventies, we thought nothing of climbing three cars high to extract what we wanted.
Nowadays Health and Safety have stopped all that.
    Happy Days

There must be a good backstory on how the owner acquired all those cars.

Years ago, I learned of a fireman working in the Muncie, Ind. area, who on his days off, would haul back Pontiacs from western states. I thought this story was about him, until reading the featured yard is farther east. If you’re looking for Pontiac parts, might be worthwhile to see if the fireman is still in business. I have no interest in making Mr. Z any richer, so I didn’t get any further than the title page, but this might be it: https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=768330
