Peruvian Find: 1966 Alfa Romeo Sprint Zagato
Here is an Alfa you don’t see very often. It is a 1966 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint Zagato and it has lived part of its life in a museum in Peru. We are not sure if it will be difficult to get it into the States, but the seller does mention a forward operating base in Zionsville Indiana. Find it here on eBay with bidding at $20,000 and the reserve unmet.
With only 105 ever built, these cars are a rare sight today. The standard 2600 wasn’t too popular, but we wouldn’t mind owning a Zagato version. It was lighter and shorter so they probably handle a little better too. The Zagato designed body doesn’t look too bad either.
The engine in this car carries on the Alfa Romeo tradition of using a six cylinder twin cam, just like they had been doing since the 1920’s. It puts out around 145 horsepower and is connected to a five speed gear box. This car is going to take some work to get back on the road, but looks like it will just need some cosmetic reconditioning and a thorough service.
This car would be a good option for someone who wants to drive an Alfa Romeo, but doesn’t want to blend in with all the other GTVs and Spiders. Parts are not as plentiful for the 2600 and it would be practically impossible to find body panels for this thing, but it could still make for a fun event car for a person who is not afraid of having to fabricate a few parts.

I know this car, since I’ve lived most of my life in Peru. It has been sitting at the Nicolini museum in Lima. One of the best classic car museums in South America, and I personally know Jorge Nicolini, its owner. There were very few of these zagatos ever made, and I believe there were 2 in Lima.www.museodelautomovilnicolini.com
Interesting. I like this car, actually, with its quirky design and all. There was a beautiful red one featured on Bring a Trailer a while back, and the comments on it had a lot of interesting facts on the model, if anyone is interested.

The car is featured on the alfabb with a buy it now of $115,000.00 USwhich might or might not be a little optimistic. Ruedi (Tubit on the Alfabb) has a register on these and owns one as well. If anybody knows more about these cars other then him I would be surprised. He would know the value of this car, although without underside pictures it is really hard to judge.John63 2600 Spider

I test drove a good 2600 Spyder in the late ’80’s, and it drove like a truck. That car should substantially be the same chassis/drivetrain as this Zagato. I am a Zagato fan and have been inside their build shop in Italy.
