Pasha Interior: 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Porsche 924 will forever be the entry point to owning a model from one of Germany’s most storied companies. This also means it will remain cheap in perpetuity. However, the one exception is the turbocharged variant known as the 931. This limited-production model was not without its faults, but for ones that are looked after and running well, they are surprisingly quick and offer excellent handling. The challenge is finding one that hasn’t fallen down a slippery slope of neglect, and fortunately, this driver-quality example is running well and not rusty. Check it out here on eBay.

The front end offers numerous clues as to the performance that lies within. The NACA duct on the hood is the first tell, which feeds cold air into the engine compartment. The vertical air slots in the nose help keep the brakes and the oil cooler from getting too hot, while the standard 924 shape helps it cut through the wind with ease. I like the extra large fog lamps the seller has installed, and given how many 924s are used in rallying, it wouldn’t be out of place to see a gigantic light pod strapped to the front end. Sadly, many 924 Turbos have been sacrificed for the nose panel and hood to swap onto naturally-aspirated examples, a condition of them often being cheap to buy.

Now, this particular 924 Turbo has an extra dose of desirability due to its rare “Pasha” interior, which is the psychedelic pattern you see on the rear seats. This was an option on early 80s Porsches, and it has become quite sought after as all things 80s come roaring back into style. The challenge is finding a car where these bits haven’t been shanked and dropped into another car; sadly, it looks like the front seats were pillaged at some point, which will cost the seller a few bucks in terms of total asking price.

Since it has the correct Pasha door panels, it almost certainly had the corresponding front bucket seats. The seller notes he has installed “….new tires, brakes, shocks and battery,” so it’s had some work done but nothing particularly exhaustive. Existing flaws include a leak at the rear turbo seal, and he also admits the shift linkage is tired. However, with that KKK turbocharger kicking out 170 horsepower and a 0-60 time of around 7 seconds, this is a seriously quick car when running correctly, and this one deserves to keep coming back to life – but you will absolutely have to source a set of Pasha bucket seats.

Didn’t the Porsche club of America block owners of these cars from membership?

l’ve seen that question asked a couple times on BF and don’t know where or why it came from. Was in PCA for 22 years, owned one 924, spent 3 years as the region publisher of the monthly news letter, and never got anything from PCA that banned anything including cars like this gem. Nice car.

Dad bought a new 924 in ’78. We joined the PCA in 1980. We were ignored by our local chapter. They weren’t mean about it, but it was clear the 924 was at the bottom of the Porsche totem pole. Once more 924s joined, things got better.

That Pasha material is not hard to find so those front seats could be redone without much trouble.
