Pace Car Project: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro
We have featured one of these Camaro Pace Cars in the past, but it was in pieces. I’m not sure which is worse though. This body is full of rust and everything else is deteriorated. What is there though appears to be original and there is documentation to prove the car’s pedigree. As can be evidenced by the quantity of bids, someone wants this one badly! These were actually replicas of the actual pace cars, but the white paint with orange stripes outside and the orange houndstooth seats inside made them very striking. You can read more about what made these special here on Camaros.org. This car appears to have been ordered with the base SS350 engine and the optional 4-speed! It’s going to take a lot of work to restore, but hopefully someone with the resources and time will drag it home. If you have what it takes, this project can be found here on eBay out of South Point, Ohio.

I’m not really seeing $19K here, but then I’m not steeped in Camaro history either. What I see is a car that basically can contribute its glass and maybe the VIN plate to a restoration. Everything else looks as if it wouldn’t get you ten bucks at a scrapyard.
Surely there must be enough similar cars left that would be better values….
I Agree!!
somebody who is savvy in looking up VINs may be able to find out it this is a track car ( see parade) , it is in sorry shape . It would be a looker when restored $19K is a high starting price to build on which is why I am thinking this was a track car that just gets the car in your driveway ( or shop)
Looking at the VIN info available at the links Jesse provided tells me this was, at most, a Pace Car “replica” and never went to the track. So I’d think the value would be rather less than the current bid price considering condition and lack of rarity.
An alloy-head 396 motor would get my attention, especially with the 4-speed manual, even though the actual Pace Cars apparently had automatics and iron heads.
A real Pace Car would be a neat thing to own!
An alloy headed big block pace car would get your attention huh? That’s funny
Camaro people are as “nuts” as Mustang people. Go Mopar !!! And I was a Chevy guy until I got my first Hemi.
I’m a Mustang guy and not that nuts, this car “Replica” is just that a standard Camaro with a 350 / 4 speed and some stripes and PACE CAR lettering. I’ve seen Fox body Mustang Pace Cars going for 15 to 20K in beautiful condition.
To much RUST!! Use it as a parts car. The undercarriage is probably the same. It makes me wonder how cars like this get this bad. That’s why I moved to Nevada and got out of N.J. in the 1990’s.
Back in the mid-80’s,these were the same price as a ’70 Corvette Convertible. It was a hard choice, but I chose the Vette (always wanted one). I sold it last year in decent original shape for 22k. The ’69 Pace Car Convertible was the only Camaro I wanted to own back then, and still is. Gold mine car now.
Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda…………………………….
Rusty played-out POS. NEXT!
This ’69 Camaro looks like it sat in a bath for years and whoever is paying that kind of money is going to be taking one too. Maybe if it was a big block.
It sounds high to me. Someone will buy it though, and pour a wheelbarrow full of money into it. Now that one can buy a full reproduction 69 Camaro body there are lots of cars just like this one contributing vin tags.
