Price Is Firm 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix J
Mitchell G found this 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J located in Philadelphia, PA. It is dark red with a white interior. The seller is asking $6,500 and says he or she is firm on the price. The car has some rust issues in the lower front fenders as well as dents in the sheet metal. The seller states that the car drives well and has a new suspension, brakes lines and gas tank. The seller is not looking for trades and requires interested buyers to provide a phone number to talk directly.
In 1969, Pontiac introduced the new third generation of the Grand Prix with two different models the J and SJ. As shown above, the bucket seats look good and have a little wear. The interior looks stock with no modifications. The engine is backed by a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission that is operated via a floor mounted shifter. The pictures of the interior are not that great but the seller states the door panels are good to OK and the lights and signals work. I have always liked the “cockpit” dash in the 1969-1977 Grand Prix.
This vehicle is a Model J which came with the base engine which was a Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8. Two versions of the 400 cubic inch V8 were offered (265 hp vs 350 hp) and 2 versions of the 428 cubic inch V8 engine (370 hp vs 390 hp) were offered in 1969. While the seller says the car drives well, the ad also states that the Rochester 4 barrel Quadrajet needs to be rebuilt. There is a video posted on YouTube to see the engine running. The air conditioning has been removed from under the hood.
This 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix is listed here on Craigslist. The seller says he or she is in no rush to sell even though the car is rotting from the bottom up and is sitting on the street. The ad states that the car runs good and the frame, floors and trunk are solid. Pontiac sold 112,000 Grand Prixs compared to 32,000 in the prior year before the model change.

I happy to see the seller is in no rush to sell because at $6500 ……..Well, I believe Hell will freeze over before someone will shell out that amount of cash for that car. Undesirable would be an understatement for this year GP.
I thought 69 were a big improvement over 68’s,but I missed what size motor is in this one.Can anyone tell me?
I will never understand the thinking of these people who are letting their car rot into the ground, with the car well along in that process and paint body work now being amid the most expensive of resto work to be done, and take the attitude that they’ve “got what people want, and people are gonna have to pay.” I love this model, but this car is an open suppurating wound of cost, and it will never be anything but vastly upside down if someone takes it on.

If they won’t accept $1500 for that rust bucket, demo derby is the best bang for their buck, I’d say.

Sellers like this guy never cease to amaze me. Has he seen his own car?? Would he pay $6500 for it? I seriously doubt it. A lot of bondo was used so long ago that it’s breaking loose, bottom of fenders are rotted through, the weather seals look ancient, but we’re supposed to believe the frame and floors are solid? He says the interior is nice, I’m certain Pontiac did not use white tape on the rear seats and the door panels didn’t come from the factory with the look of water damage. “Price is firm, I know what I got”

Cool car but gotta agree with all the other posts. New York is part of the rust belt so it will never be rust free.
Sixty Five Hundred FIRM……It should be less, as there is less of the Grand Prix. Outside of the sad sad shape of the outside, I see it is a Factory Air Conditioning car….with no pump, hoses, and the compressor brackets. Anybody that has ever had to track down those kind of parts knows that finding all the brackets, bolts, spacers etc can really be a challenge. Crush it, wouldn’t take much.
Who on God’s green earth is going to be dumb enough to buy this car and save it ?
