Project in Parts: 1972 Ford Bronco
We fairly routinely feature first-generation Ford Broncos here on Barn Finds. They are classic vehicles that have stood the test of time and their value keeps going up. They seem to be coming out of the woodwork more often recently and command strong prices in any condition. This one is from 1972 and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $9,100. Located in Tyler, Texas, as you’ll see, the seller has started the restoration.
Here you can see the body has been stripped down to the tub. The seller says the mechanical part of the restoration is mostly complete. The stock 302 cubic inch V8 has been rebuilt along with a new clutch and pressure plate for the 3-speed column shift transmission. New parts under the hood also include the alternator, water pump, fuel pump, and carburetor. Underneath you’ll find new u-joints for the drivelines which are hooked to a Dana 44 up front and a 9-inch rear end along with new exhaust.
Rust issues in first-generation Broncos are very common. The seller has already purchased replacement panels for the floors and rockers, so the buyer won’t have to hunt them down. The nice thing is the aftermarket support for these trucks is very strong and you can pretty much order anything you need with the stroke of a keyboard.
You can tell the original color was probably yellow but it was painted brown at some point. With the body stripped this far down, it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and media blast it. This will give you a good look at any other rust issues and will allow you to paint it however you like. What is your favorite color for an early Bronco?

Lots of great colors for the Broncos – I think one of my favorites is Harbor Blue because that’s what mine is.
Hmmm i have started to take apart and lost… where are those bolts i took off
We’ve seen worse ….just tie down the pieces and walk thru the garage and ask is that part mine..what about that under-the work bench..or that in the rafters…
I’ve been down this road before
Broncos are cool when not rusted and together 👍👀
Wonder if the seller would loan out his garage to finish the build so on your breaks you can drool all over that beautiful ’33 next to it. One of the better Broncos I’ve seen in a while.
like the ol oem winch bumper & side chrome…
mot the driver’s rearview.
