No Rust Ever: 1962 Cadillac Sixty-Two Convertible
There’s an excellent car museum located in my home state of Michigan, the Gilmore Car Museum. On its grounds is a replica Cadillac dealership filled to capacity with Cadillacs and LaSalles spanning decades, and one of those cars is a beautiful 1962 Cadillac convertible that I fell in love with the first time I saw it. Oh, to have a bigger garage and more money: This beautiful ’62 Cadillac Sixty-Two Convertible is just as nice as that museum car, and it’s currently for sale on eBay.
I’m not sure it’s possible to positively identify when Cadillac reached its peak, but the early 1960s isn’t a bad place to start. At that time, Cadillac was as luxurious as any hand-built car from Europe, in addition to being well-built, reliable, and capable. Magazine writers gushed over its surprising athleticism, and all-in-all, it was a car for the home team to take pride in. These days, the concurrent Lincoln Continental receives a lot of praise for its clean-lined styling, but according to the sales charts, Cadillac was king, and it wasn’t even close.
This Cadillac Sixty-Two is ready to prove why all those people made a good choice when they chose a Cadillac. According to the owner of this ’62 Sixty-Two, it is ready to drive; the original chrome shines, the power top works, and the interior looks like new, including the original bucket seats. Notice the Autronic Eye on the dashboard; it seems like they all have them.
Even the back seat looks unblemished. Notice the “natural grain leather” and power windows befitting the “Standard of the World.” There are no “top up” pictures in the ad, but there is a new, white convertible top under that cream-colored boot.
Strangely, the seller does not include any pictures of the engine compartment, although it has been the recipient of a full tune-up, hoses, and fluid changes. The trunk looks nice, however, and the spare tire is apparently original. The four tires that touch pavement are modern radials, and the car has recently been aligned.
With a huge 26-gallon gas tank and a big 390 V8 under the hood, the Cadillac was built for long-distance travel in the classiest manner possible: It just oozed success. The seller claims that this California car has always been garage-kept, and its pale yellow color (Maize?) and harmonizing leather are a beautiful combination. Even the wheel colors are painted in a complementary pattern. The high bid on the eBay auction is already $26,000, which is beneath the reserve. I have a feeling that this one could sell for a lot, given that it’s a fantastic example of a fantastic car.

Wow. Truly King of the Road. Always loved ’62s.
1962 is one of my all time favorite years for Cadillac. Love the double tail fins!!! This one truly looks like an outstanding example.
The lower ones were called skegs, borrowed from nautical use.
🎶 🎸🎙 ” Easing down the highway in my new Cadillac, I got a fine fox in front, i got three more in the back.👄
They’re sporting short dresses, wearing spike heeled shoes 👠 they’re smoking Lucky Strikes 🚬 and wearing nylons too….” 🎵
I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide. This Caddy is just unbelievable. It’s definitely for someone with the garage space and the wherewithal to just trot it out on the nicest days. Daily driver? Forget about it.
This was my first car (in 1969), except it was a Coupe de Ville. It had a front bench seat- I think that my then girlfriend might have been disappointed with bucket seats like these. We used to rock out with the dashboard and rear seat speakers 😉. Then I hastily installed an eight track player, which caused the headlights to go off while driving in the country. Fun times. All I can say is I am glad gas was pretty cheap in those days…
Gas averaged .35/gallon then, which according to my inflation calculator works out to 3.01 now. Illinois is high, but in neighboring Iowa it’s 3.20 and about 3.16 in Wisconsin. So, it’s not completely out of line.
Kim put it into perspective fuel prices more than tripled by 1973 supposedly due to a gas shortage which was a big lie. What else happened during that time was the invasion of rice burners getting triple the mpg and the little 4 cylinders running figure 8s around American V8s. Wages haven’t kept up. I bought my 1st house for $25k in 1982. Same house today is $225k+ today. Society is on a hamster wheel in a cage. No matter how fast you run you aren’t getting anywhere.
@Frog
You seem to be forgetting the 1973 Arab-Israeli War. The Arab members of OPEC, led by Saudi Arabia, cut off (embargoed) oil exports to the United States, (because we supplied Israel with weapons during the hostilities), and all other nations considered, by them, to be supportive of Israel. OPEC also reduced their daily output of oil. The U.S. was heavily reliant on oil imports at that time and it was a major blow to our economy (remember odd and even gas days?). The price of a barrel of oil first doubled and then quadrupled. I lived through those days, sat in the long lines for gas and it all seemed very real, and not a “big lie”. I’m curious as to your source for this “big lie”, as this is the first time that I have ever heard of it. Can you provide an authoritative source to substantiate your claim (all of the information that I provided is easily confirmed)?
@John Eder, @Frog may be referring to having tankers at anchor in the Chesapeake or elsewhere on the East Coast that were full of oil and weren’t being allowed to offload because the oil companies wanted to drive up prices. I was living in CO at the time and heard the same “news” as everyone else, but after my new wife and I moved to Baltimore so she could be near her family I mentioned the oil “shortage” to one of her brothers one day and he laughed and said there was no shortage, it was all staged. They had family place on Sillery Bay in Pasadena MD and were out on the Chesapeak most weekends when the weather was nice, and he said ships full of oil were there but they were were just sitting in the bay. Apparently it was well known by pretty much everyone there that it wasn’t a manufactured “shortage” but the news was never let out nationally.
@ JohnMichael:
Thanks for your input. Apparently, there were rare instances of tanker owners trying to take advantage and get a higher price (there was no shortage of greed during this period). The real reason all of those tankers were at anchor off the East Coast was a shortage of storage tank capacity and dock space to offload their cargo (per a NY Times article from 1973, quoting oil industry sources). Governor-elect Byrne of New Jersey may have been the source of the rumor about the tankers holding out for a better price. There’s no denying that the OPEC oil embargo was the primary driver of the oil shortage of 1973-74. We imported 30% of our oil requirements at the time, which was abruptly shut off. Ten days after the Arab-Israeli war started, OPEC raised the price of oil by 40%. I would like to believe the idea put forth by Frog, but the only references that I found regarding it dismiss it as a rumor. Any factual information to support it would be welcome and interesting.
The “Big Lie” is, for the most part, a conspiracy myth.
Kim, who cares what fuel costs, I pay about 80 bucks AUD to half fill my 62 Imperial so what’s the issue with enjoying a Sunday cruise. What if I played golf, how much would a round or two cost including the drinks in the clubhouse afterwards. A trip to the movies with the family with drinks and popcorn, etc, cost you so what’s the issue?
It’s what you enjoy that’s important, everything costs money so live with it before you can’t do it anymore or you die!
TC Australia! That’s a wonderful way to look at personal values. Good for you. Enjoy your Imperial now, when you die you will be dead for a long time.
Saw paradise by the dashboard light?
I would really like to know how that is even remotely possible. An 8-track causing the headlights to go out???
C-mon!
CAD 62…CAD 62.. Calling all members of The GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHT SOCIETY…62 Cadillac now spotted in the BARN. 🚔. Proceed immediately. SAID VEHICLE looks to be well equipped for FINTASTIC cruising. Lock up a great deal! 🚔 👮♂️.
Rodger Wilco! Out
My folks had a really nice ’62 Coupe
De Ville when I was 12 or 13 years old. Man that car was sharp! Dad
Always put Mom in a nice pre owned
Caddy when he could and that car was really something else! And to cap it all off, everything worked! It even had an AM/FM radio that sounded like a stereo when you had the front and rear speakers set just
right. My Dad would often say that
a pre owned Caddy was the best used car you could buy back then. Mom
drove the ’62 about a year and a half
before Dad put her into the ’66 Calais
4-door hardtop that I would buy from
them in 1970. My band and I sure logged a lot of miles in that car playing one night stands on weekends too. All I did to it other than normal maintenance, was put a
trailer hitch on the back of it to pull a
medium sized single axle trailer to haul our equipment around from job
to job. That summer would be my
first road trip playing music without my guys backing me up. The band leader I went with wanted only me to be a lead singer in his band. Made enough money that summer to buy my school clothes and help my folks
pay down the mortgage on our house.
What was left I used for expenses like
motel rooms and meals. Think I made $2K that first summer. And in
1970 money, that seemed like a small
fortune to a kid like me. I did that the
next two summers til I graduated high school and then got a job opening for
Marty Robbins. Never lost my love of
Cadillacs either. Sure wish I had one
now!
Hi Kenneth, my old man too. I know I rip on him, but he was a good man, good values, and he made sure my mom drove a nice car. Began with Olds 98s, then a Lincoln( I took my drivers test on) a big T-bird that mom hated, then a couple Caddys. My mom didn’t see it that way, however, she liked a small car. She always said the doors were too heavy for her. When big cars were no longer available,( and he lost his license) he went with minivans, and mom was a lot happier.
For obvious reasons, we never saw’r many ragtops in the North Pole, but Upper Midwest was incredibly prosperous, and Cadillacs were a plenty, just not convertibles. I agree, ’62/62 was the epitome of Caddys. In the 60s, there were basically 3 cars in the world considered the best. Caddy, Rolls, and MB. Each for a specific market, but Caddy was considered one of the best, certainly here.
It should be noted, the cap on the tranny tunnel may be a momento from the USS Haverfield. Named after an Ensign Haverfield, killed on the Arizona at Pearl Harbor. It, I read, was commissioned in 1943 as a destroyer/scout ship and the owner could very well have been on that all important vessel. They dreamed of a new Caddy ragtop, and even though it took them 15 years, they finally got their Caddy, and drove it for 30 years, and that, my friends was their reward for serving America. ***,,
*** disclaimer: may or may not have actually happened
Very nice caddy and well maintained. I like it!
Very nice example of a California car. No pictures shown with the top up. Bad idea to keep it down all the time. I’m not a fan of white or lighter colored interiors. This looks like it may be redone in a vinyl.
nice car. great color combo rarely seen
Somehow, this not being a flamboyant color combo, makes it, to me, infinitely more stately.
That isn’t just a car, it’s a piece of real estate!
Beautiful car . I never liked convertible Cadillacs though, I can’t install a Chandelier on the ceiling as I have done to my others.
“Cadillac, what a luxury Lincoln should be”!
Hey CAD Kid… love the chandeliers. Way back someone, maybe you posted a photo with chandeliers! Great idea for LAND YACHTS. After my last (disastrous) experience with my 93 Brougham, I switched to Town Cars. BUT I still use the custom front Vanity Plate with the Cadillac Crest and wreath. Lettered Hillcrest Cadillac, Beverly Hills. Best of both worlds and generates a lot of attention! 👍 NO KIDDING. 😁 🤣
That would get a lot of attention.
Enjoy your ride, it’s what you like, not some one else that’s important.
I installed a cheap Spencer Gifts chandelier in my first 65 Cadillac, it was in 1975, I was 16. I was pulled over and given a warning by a Hbg officer for obstructing my rear mirror view. I then added 2 mirrors on my front fenders. I was stopped again for supposedly obstructing my forward view. It just kept going on and on, especially when I got to the point, many years later and had 3 batteries, 2 Alternators and 186 lights!
Cadillac Kid… seems like Smoky is always watching. 🚔👮♂️. Here you can be pulled over if anything (including disability sign) is hanging from rear view mirror. Love my Town Car, but still wish I hadn’t let the 89 Brougham deElegance go. Guess that’s MY SOB (definitely not SAAB 🤮) story!
My father had a ’61 coup, wow what a vehicle!
It’s no wonder Chrysler got it wrong in ’63/’64, the ’61 & ’62 Caddy was much smaller than the ’59 & ’60.
I never cared much for the ’61 & ’62 Caddys. They were quite ugly when they came out, to me, but they are growing on me. Fortunately, the ’63 grew a few inches and from there, there was no stopping Cadillac.
I remember looking at the Cadillac advertisements in grade school in the National Geographic magazine. A man in a suit or tux, and beautiful woman always in a fashionable gown, a Cadillac ready to roll.
The Cadillac crest and V were always at the top of the page, usually done in jewels. The V was done in emeralds, or diamonds or rubies. My love of Cadillac started at 4 years old in 1957 and has never waned.
Unfortunately, I’m not like TCK, I couldnt afford “just” Cadillacs, but I’ve had a few and they never disappointed.
Hello to all my GALYS members!
Rodger Wilco! Out
Now now! I did have Ford Vans and Ford pick up trucks at the same time too!
I bought most all my Cadillacs needing much work which I did myself.
Many I towed home.
In the late seventies/eighties I was buying them for $100.00 l, totally stripping the really gone ones and getting $300 to $400.00 for scrap and building up a nice parts inventory (which I still have)so I could afford the repairs. I am now 66,OMG when did that happen, and still do all my repairs.
All my vehicles have an Antique plate on them so no inspections or plate renewals. YEAH!!!
I remember those ads, they were so classy. It seems the Lincoln ads of the era were clones. The 1962 70s are becoming my favorites.
I love a light yellow Cadillac. This is high style.
Wow, back when a home had a real garage
Hi Angel,! I was wondering when you were gonna show up! This
thing with the Land Yachts is great and yeah, I’d like to meet all of you too. Say, maybe we could start selling some merchandise
too. Riding in one of these cars is a trip back through time to the
days when there were good paying jobs for everyone that wanted to work. And if you saved your dough, made the right decisions, you were well on your way to maybe owning a Cadillac
And if you were a real go-getter, you went to night school, studied hard, you came out on the other side with a big fat promotion that allowed you to buy a Caddy.. So what if it was used. You could still let your family and your friends that you had
Indeed arrived. Along with the car, there were all those great old times BEFORE the world went to hell in a hand basket. But I digress. I’ve been putt-puttin around my workshop most of the day trying to get some stuff fin8shed so that I can get ready to do a Cadillac portrait very soon. On my table right now, I have an
’01 Ram 1500 SLT quad cab w8th a 12 inch custom lift sitting on 22 inch Rock Star rims wrapped in 35 inch tires. The body will be
white pearl and have gold accents. All I have to do is paint the body, add the gold accents, and maybe call it a day. That pearl
stuff can be very tricky to use too. One mistake and it could be
start over time in a heartbeat. The truck also has Rockwell differentials front and rear with an automatic transfer case. I still have the Mini Cooper too, but there isn’t that much left to do to it before I hand it over to the customer. Well folks, it’s time for me to call it a day and hit the sack. 6:00 comes mighty early and I hope to have the finished before I go to work tomorrow night.
And as for those conditions you gave me Angel, yes dear I’d be
more than happy to partner up with you on that h3arse deal too.
@John Eder,
Keep in mind the government has never been truthfully transparent about many things that has happened over the course of history. Cause and effect. Roswell, Kennedy assassination UFOs etc. Typically 30+ years after an event has happened some of the truths get leaked out. And in the meantime the press is only informed about what the government wants the general public to know and believe. A lie will make it half way around the world before truth gets both feet out of bed.
To Quote Marjorie Maine in Meet Me In St. Louis, A lie is a lie! Dressing it up in a fancy red dress doesn’t make it any different! Howdy Frog! What’s UP?
Hello Rick, Angel just resting and laying low at the pad. Preparing for my next round of appointments next week. I discovered this dealership in Ramsey Minnesota called Druk. He has quite a large and beautiful selection of mostly old school classics and antique cars. But don’t tell anyone. Oops 🤭. Since I’ve spilled the tea check out Unique Classic Cars in Mankato Minnesota also.
Nice generalizations, but still waiting for proof, Frog. This is easily verified, unlike flying saucers and JFK’s “other assassins” (conspiracy theory much?). My information sources were MIT, Columbia and the New York Times (quoting oil industry sources, not the government). Also, I was a USAF Intel analyst, specializing in the Middle East during this time. We got global intelligence daily from many sources and monitored events intensely 24/7, especially after the threat level was raised to DefCon 3. No mention of your purported scheme in any classified documents- ever. Remember, without proof, it’s just a rumor or speculation.
Kudos and salutations John Eder I’m also an ex Air Force Vietnam veteran. Thank you for serving. Trust me I don’t give any credence to tabloid fodder. I do cross reference things that I come across.
Allow me sometime to reference my sources from archives. I’m not debating your information or what you know. There’s a bigger picture to the cause and effect. As far as definitive proof, creation and the Creator has also been one of if not the biggest enigmas ever without any proven evidence and also accepted as truth. But I’ll stay focused on the subject matter and as stated respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.
Hey Frog,
Looks like you live in the Twin Cities metro, too, having mentioned Druk Motors.
A couple of years ago they had a ’69 Buick Electra with 4,000 miles on it. Still had the original dual stripe whitewalls; had to be General Jumbo 780 Dual Belt . Only mfg. to my knowledge that had those narrow stripes. My Dad had those tires on his ’70 Impala, that’s how I know.
Jon, I had footprints all over the Twin Cities. Got tired of the tundra winters and moved to the land of litigation. Let’s see if anyone knows where I’m talking about =). Another popular tire on luxury cars were Vogue tires with the gold stripe around the white wall. IMO American luxury cars today have lost their swag when they went with the blackwall. Maybe people just got tired and lazy keeping them clean.
Hi Rick, hi Frog,
Glad most of us are here. You are correct, IMO, Mopar for those years were fubars. Small, not very stylish, the dashboards were horrible. Cadillac, however, even though they shrunk them, were at least stylish and sexy. In the movie “Tin Men” Danny DeVito drives a yellow 1961 Cadillac Series 62 while Richard Dreyfus drives a 1963 Coupe de Ville.
You guys gotta start watching movies. 📽🎞
Hey Rick, what state do you live in? Just the state, don’t want to upset Jesse.
Mornin Sunshine 🌞 ANGEL! I live in MANY states. Confusion. Old Age. Sometimes Anger 😉. Always Euphoria with Our GALYS. And many other states. I’m a Pisces and you can guess the many other states of my mind. Geologically I’m unfortunately in the State of Indiana. But my heart is in California.
ANGEL, I love Movies. But like our cars and US, they don’t make em like that any more. Last ones I saw in theaters were Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and BROS. Would love to see some that are on streaming but cost of various streaming services is WAY too much. But there Is ONE movie I definitely want to see. Bet you can guess 😏, but it’s Only showing at one area theater 20 miles away. Maybe I’m The Devil who wears PRADA! 😲
Rick, we saw Reagan. It was great! We don’t see many movies either; I think the last one before this was The Call of the Wild. Loved Jack London & visited his estate in California in ’89.
Jon, good to see you! I didn’t see Reagan, but would love to see Apprentice. You really need to become a member of The GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHT SOCIETY! I will gladly sponsor you for membership! Keep drivin!
That’s a beautiful 62 drop top! I would love to have it but not near enough garage space unfortunately. Note to author, you are right, Gilmore car museum is fantastic! We attend Wednesday night cruise in’s all summer long. Average attendance 700 – 800 cars biggest 1158 cars! We are blessed to have it in our neighborhood.
Hey Rick W, always enjoy your comments. If you are Amazon Prime they offer a vast selection of old movies, many available for no extra charge, i.e. included with the membership. Just an FYI
In ’17, I paid a visit to that Gilmore Museum as part of a 1500 mile trip I made in my ’84 Cutlass Brougham. All of you should do the same. That Caddy replica dealership from 1948 is fantastic as is the gas station with the hose that rings the bell when you step on it. The cafe is a restored 1948 rail car.
Car survived 500 miles of rain to St. Ignace, across the Mac Bridge to the Olds Museum, then through Chicago to back home. Hot & stormy trip. Got home to discover I’d run the whole trip on a crummy alternator. No wonder I had to buy a battery 100 miles out! Hey Rick W. & Angel Diva!
John K, Life’s a GAS! TANKS for your kind comments. At my advanced age, I still try to raise a little cane 😉. Best to you! 👍
Frog,
I couldn’t agree with you more. Cadillacs AND Lincolns with Blackwell tires. Who came up with that idea?
Always hated it.
Every car I’ve ever had except for my MG Midget had white walls, until you couldn’t.
My daily driver is a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. When it was time for new tires I tried to get whitwalls, but certainly couldn’t afford Vogues.
Regular blackwall for all 4 was $800. If I wanted whitewalls, (which took forever to find) it would have been $1600. Twice as much.
Back around 2000 when I had my small collection, all my classics had 2.5″ or 3″ whitewalls, usually from Coker Tire.
Always great to hear from you.
About 6 years ago I bought 4 new white wall tires from Pep Boys for my Ford Aerostar(yes I have one of those). The idiots put them on backwards with white walls in. Why did I make a big fuss to get them if I did not want to see the whitewalls? I did make them change them. All of my Pep Boys tires lasted about 12 years.
Raising Cane, wasn’t that a movie? Or was that Citizen Cane? Who can remember.
Hi all my lovely and fantastic GALYS members. I’m just now reading a lot of the posts I’ve should have been notified about. Great discussion. I’m not a streamer. I get 98% of my movies on DVD or Bluray from eBay dealers. Anywhere from $3 to $6.
Rick, my first thought of the movie you were referring to was Rocky Horror, since it is the Halloween season. I love the old movies for the cars. TCK, you of all people should have a copy of Tin Men. Nothing but Cadillacs from the 50s to 1963. Coupes, sedans, Fleetwoods, Eldorados, Barritz and Sevilles.
ANGEL the movie I was referring to would probably be an even bigger HORROR show! 😉 More useless trivia. Citizen Kane was a send up of William Randolph Hearst. Orson Wells and debut of Ruth Warrick, later as Hannah Cord on TV PEYTON PLACE, and as Phoebe Tyler Wallingford on ALL MY CHILDREN. Carol Burnette starred in FRESNO, a campy mini series in the era of DALLAS, DYNASTY, etc. Carol played the matriarch with several problem children. One was named CAIN. At one point she regretted spending to RAISING CAIN. How can I remember all this, when sometimes I can’t remember (as Nancy P. might say THE POO POO 💩! Well now, guess I’ll catch up on The DAYS of Our Lives! Don’t get me started on soap information 🙄. LOL!
I have well over 500 DVDs not to mention hundreds of VHS tapes but I admit, I never heard of that movie.

Rick, I was never into soaps, except for Dark Shadows with Barnabus Collins or the nighttime soaps of the 80s, Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, Falcons Crest and the like.
I was so into Knots Landing that I actually cried when it ended.
Shadows of the Night calling you to Collinwood. 🏰. First series. Two films. A failed prime time revival. And Tim Burtons Film! On the original and two films, Joan Bennett was my favorite as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. Great stories about the Bennett sisters and a scandal involving Joan! I may not know where ALL the bodies are buried, but I usually can dig up and dish the DIRT. 😉 🧛♂️ 💋
Sorry, don’t know what happened, but I guess (like beans) 😲 it bears repeating! 🤪
I’m surrounded by very intelligent people who know cars, mechanics & movies.
Ya’ll make me feel dumb. 🤯
No way are you a DUMMY! 🎵 You’re a 🎶Mona Lisa! 🎵 You’re a delicious PIZZA! 🎶 You’re The TOP as sung by ETHEL MERMAN in a 40s Cole Porter musical ANYTHING GOES. Now I have to go, since my tablet is running low! Hasta La Pasta! Any word from Uncle Vito?
Chat with me and you’ll feel smarter. I’ll certainly get smarter.
If you want to see this car model prominently featured in a color classic movie, watch “Sweet Bird of Youth”-1962. It opens with Paul Newman driving Geraldine Paige who is laying in the back seat. Several scenes follow including one where the car is actually driven. The movie is great too.
DERRIC! Nice to have another Movie buff here in The BARN! If you check my posts, you’ll see we have much in common. Geraldine Page was brilliant, Interesting how Newman Co starred with (my favorite) ELIZABETH TAYLOR, who went on to play Delores Delago in a remake of Sweet Bird. In that film, the car was a 59 yellow and black Dodge. ANGEL 😇 where are you?
I missed relating that Elizabeth and Paul co-starred in CAT On A HOT TIN ROOF. Her costar in Sweet Bird was Mark Harmon. Can’t have my trivia reputation compromised! 🤣 😂 GALYS members, just found in the BARN, a 70
Series 75!
No Angel, you’re not dumb. There’s a
lot of folks out there who get to see
more movies than we do. If you’re
anything like me, you work almost
constantly to make ends meet. So much for our golden years, right? To be honest with you, I haven’t heard of
a movie that I’d really pay to see in
quite a long while. The last movie I saw was Migration on my niece’s
birthday (Christmas Day) and compared to some of the crap they
sell as entertainment these days,
I found it to be very refreshing. And with all that being said, I like the older
movies better. Like you, I watch them
now for all the cars too. Maybe someday God willing, we could sit on
a couch and watch them together and
call out all the ones we know. And who knows, I might just reach over and hold your hand.
Aww, Kenneth, you’re such a romantic.
But be careful, don’t want to be accused of flirting again.
Speaking of movies,, have ya’ll heard of Toby Halicki. He made the original “Gone in Sixty Seconds”. The Nicholas Cage version is a remake.
The original “Eleonor” was a 1971 Mach l in a butterscotch color.
If you like car crashes, as long as you don’t get upset, they wreck over 500 cars including a 1966 Lincoln Continental convertible. Lots of 1965 Cadillacs involved also.
He’s also made “The Junkman”, “Deadline Auto Theft” & “Gone in Sixty Seconds 2”
It’s okay if you flirt with me Angel. Makes me feel young and important
again. Haven’t felt like that in years.
Tried POF and Facebook dating with no luck at all. Today, normal women
don’t date disabled men no matter how nice they are. So now, all I do is
work. At least that fills up some of
the emptiness I have sometimes. And stopping by BF gives me the chance to see some great old stuff and talk to all of you. And yeah, I still
Wanna hold your hand.
Ken, there truly is someone for everyone. Hope springs eternal. It’s just a matter of time and it will happen when you least expect.
🎵 I wanna hold your hand 🎶
I know how you feel, Ken. It’s not just hard for disabled people. We are old, too. In Japan they revere the elderly. In American it’s all about youth.
I’ve been on POF, Tinder & a dozen other sites. They’re all the same. The people are all the same.
I like coming here to talk to you, Rick W, Frog, Cadillac Kid and all the other land yacht lovers and even some who are not LYL.
It’s nice to talk about the vintage cars, I’ve learned a lot on here. Just as enjoyable is learning the personal lives of people I interact with on here.
A few years ago some on here said I don’t play well with others. I’m just very opinionated. And since that person is still on here, I’ve learned a lot from you, also.
I enjoy you, Ken, and this site.
Kenneth I’ll say this mainly speaking for myself I like myself, I love myself and I enjoy my own company. I’m alone by choice but I’m not lonely. Not to sound narcissistic but I am selfish with me.
Now don’t get me wrong when I do go out and socialize and mingle I am very entertaining and usually liven things up for those that are around. But at the end of the night frog likes to retreat back to his pad alone. I quit flirting because it started leading to writing checks my rear end couldn’t cash. But once again I enjoy engaging when I do go somewhere. So my advice for you is let your fun side shine through and your cup will runneth over.
Thanks guys! Guess I needed that.
Angel, you asked me on the ’56 Packard post when I bought my ’50
Packard limo. Well dear, I bought it
near the end of my Sophomore year in highschool back in ’71. I got it from
Rick Brooks, a guitar teacher friend of mine who I was taking lessons from
back then. I’d gone over to Rick’s house to record a song that I’d written
called “Happy Golden Years” for a mutual friend of ours who was getting married about that time. Midway through the session, I noticed the Packard while we were out on a smoke break as we sat on his patio.
He told me he was selling the car dirt cheap after it had been sideswiped by
a drunk driver while parked in front of his house. He thought about scrapping it because repair parts were hard to come by. He told me that he’d take $250 for it, so when the session was over, I had him drive me
to my bank to get the cash for him.
I then called my Dad and told him to bring my future BIL with him to help
bring the car home. And while we were driving home, Dad and I had this
father-son discussion about buying an orphan car and keeping it running the way it should. But I had an ace in the hole though. There was an old man in our town named Joe Levavich who owned Reliable Auto Parts, a place that today would be considered
a honey hole crammed from floor to
ceiling with all kinds of NOS parts and
accessories for almost any car or truck from the teens to the early ’60s
And if anyone had parts for a ’50 Packard, it would be Joe. After all, he had a 3-story building chock full of
rare and hard to find auto parts, and
solid rust free sheet metal in the building next door to him. So I go down there with a Polaroid photo of the engine and Presto! Joe sends me out the door with an NOS rebuild kit for the engine in my car, which was a
356 cube straight 8 mated to an Ultramatic transmission. And man that thing was huge! The crankshaft
alone weighed 105 pounds! I had a
2-week vacation from playing music so I put the time to good use by rebuilding the engine and transmission BEFORE I went to Las Vegas with Duke Babb for a short
tour that would end about a week or
so before school started again. With help from Dad and my Uncle Dean, we
got the engine rebuilt and the tranny
serviced in 10 days. That gave me
four days to chill out before going back on the road with Duke and the gang. After school started, I used the
limo as a band car to play one nighters with my friends on the weekends. Through the week, I’d come home, hit the books, type up my
homework, have Dinner, and if I had any time left before bedtime, you’d find me out in the garage doing body
work to the Packard. Now in all this work and playing music, I completely
forgot about girls! That worried Dad
quite a bit as he began to believe his
only son had turned gay. So he devised a plan to take me to a brothel
to get ME serviced instead of the Packard. The place was owned by
Richard Pryor’s aunt (Yes, that Richard Pryor) who was a rather notorious madam over in Peoria.
Well, Mom found out about it and she went ballistic! She chewed his ass for at least two weeks. And after that,
they never spoke of it again. Since you already know about the reason I sold the car, I won’t rehash that again.
I sold the limo in late ’73 to a collector from Chicago for $3K, and Mom drove my ’63 Buick LeSabre ragtop til I sold that in ’76
And to quote Paul Harvey, “…And now you know the rest of the story.”
Coincidental but I’ve currently got a 1952 Packard for sale if anyone’s interested, probelem is it’s in Australia and it’s RHD but hey it doesn’t hurt to advertise does it?
It’s a fully restored Packard 200 sedan and is for sale to the best offer. Message me if you’re in Oz and are interested.
Shipping to the US would be around three and a half grand.
