No Reserve 1987 Ski Supreme Sierra 20′ Ski Boat

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

A person can occupy the winter months in many ways, biding their time until the warm weather returns. Kicking back in front of the fire is one, while others find hitting the ski fields irresistible. However, many would forego such pursuits, preferring to spend productive time in the workshop on a restoration project. We’ve recently seen our share of cars and motorcycles at Barn Finds that could fulfill that role, but our feature vehicle could be ideal for someone intent on aquatic leisure activities. This 1987 Ski Supreme Sierra 20′ ski boat comes with a trailer and some accessories, and treating it to a light cosmetic refresh would have it ready to provide excitement under the summer sun. It is listed here on eBay in Archbold, Ohio. Bidding sits at $500 in a No Reserve auction.

I admit I am not a boating enthusiast and prefer to keep my feet firmly planted on terra firma. However, those that are will probably appreciate the lines of this Sierra. It is the product of Supreme Boats of Merced, California. The company was acquired by Correct Craft in 2015, although it continues producing a range of ski boats. My limited boat knowledge led me to undertake some research on the Sierra, and it revealed a few pertinent facts. Most craft of this type are designed primarily for use on smooth water, but owner feedback confirms that the deep “V” of the hull design allows it to cope well in rougher circumstances. Supreme offered the Sierra in several color combinations, although the Blue and White on this vessel was the most popular. It shows marks and scratches that have accumulated through regular use, but performing a refresh to return the hull to its original splendor would be straightforward. The fiberglass is in good order, as are the windows and fittings. There are no cracks or other signs of structural issues that might cause concern. The timber is aging, but sanding and refinishing is a viable option because there is no evidence of developing rot. The original Supreme trailer is included, but the listing and photos suggest that its significant rust issues make it suitable for storage only. The winning bidder would need to source a replacement, and factoring the purchase price into the budget would be wise.

Ski boats need power to operate effectively, and this Sierra delivers. It features an inboard 351ci “Indmar” V8, producing 240hp. Owner feedback confirms it will effortlessly tow skiers, wakeboarders, and tube riders. The seller indicates the carburetor received a recent rebuild and that the Sierra last hit the water in the summer of 2023. It appears to be a turnkey proposition, with the seller including a bilge pump, ropes, fire extinguisher, and flares.

This boat’s interior requires little more than a deep clean because the current owner recently reupholstered most seats. They are trimmed in hardwearing vinyl that should also offer a degree of moisture protection. It has a carrying capacity of up to ten people, but the more bodies there are aboard, the more significant the impact on this Craft’s towing capacity. The dash features the usual array of gauges to monitor the V8’s health and to indicate speed. Cruising enjoyment is increased by the Pioneer CD player with USB input. However, occupants are unlikely to hear it when this beauty blasts across the water with a couple of people skimming across the surface behind.

The price of this 1987 Ski Supreme Sierra ski boat and trailer may only sit at $500, but it has reached that figure from an impressive nineteen bids. There are under two days left on the listing, and unless the action intensifies towards the end, someone could find themselves with a bargain buy. Is that enough to tempt you to pursue it further?

Does this boat really belong on Barnfinds? Certainly there are still Mustangs and Corvettes out there that you guys haven’t written about.

Rex have you ever driven a real water-ski boat like this ? I had the
pleasure recently 😀 to get behind the wheel of a late 80s Ski Nautique. And let me tell you they handle like no other boat. Very car like, flat turns, and glorious sounds from the big block motor. 🏁🙌

They have airplanes on here too. No big deal! They’re all interesting.

I’m not knocking the boat. I’ve done a lot of boating. And I spent 2 years with the Ohio EPA doing fish shocking on all the rivers of Ohio. My point was that this boat might be better on that vintage boat website “Dockfinds. com”.

I like the variety. Love the older Correct Craft Mustangs in particular. Keep it all coming.

Never owned a boat, but if a reasonable Glastron-Carlson Intimidator ever crossed my path, that could change.

I’ve heard since the time I was little, that a boat is a hole in the water, surrounded by wood, into which men throw money.
To me, it’s the same concept with classic cars. The choice is yours as to where you throw it. I prefer cars, but boats are found in barns too. If the right one comes along, and my wife isn’t looking….😏

I used to belong to a ski club, with a Ski-Tique, a Ski-Nautique, and a Master Craft back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. No boats “handle” like real center engine inboard shaft drive ski boats back then. The coolest thing was the Master Craft owner painted his Suburban tow vehicle to match his boat, blue stars and stripes, with the Master Craft graphics on the side and tailgate. Coolest setup EVER!

With the bids soaring past $685 ( going up in increments of $5 bucks), I think it’s pretty safe to say, there is little interest in a cool boat like this. If I lived on a waterway of some sort, I would definitely have a boat like this. While my waterskiing days are long over, did a lot as a kid, I bet this boat really cruises with that motor, despite it’s gallon per mile economy,( even less pulling something) this was a high class unit. Can’t find the original price, but had to be 5 figures, reduced to what, a mere $700 bucks? I bet that CJ7 would pull this no problem, provided the CJs awkward handling didn’t put you in the ditch. Someone is going to get a nice boat cheap.
