No Reserve: 1987 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4×4

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1987 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4×4 has a lot of points in its favor. It presents beautifully, both inside and out. Add the fact that it has a genuine 77,000 miles showing on its odometer, and this is a vehicle that should have plenty of life left in it for the next lucky owner. The Blazer is located in Portland, Oregon, and has been listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding has reached $15,700 off the back of some frantic activity. The good news is that it is being offered with No Reserve.

Finished in a combination of Dark Blue and White, the Blazer is a striking looking vehicle. When you consider the sorts of activities vehicles like this are used for, they can tend to look pretty tired and shabby over time. Off-roading can leave them susceptible to dings, dents, and scratches. That isn’t the case here, because the Blazer’s panels are straight and true. The paint looks free from any apparent scrapes and scratches, while the panel gaps are consistent. The Blazer has been garaged for its entire life, and this has undoubtedly helped it to remain rust-free. The chrome and trim are in good condition, and there are no visible issues with the glass. It doesn’t appear that anyone has made any aftermarket additions like a lift kit, which means that the Blazer presents as an immaculate original survivor.

The clean presentation continues when we delve inside the Blazer. The seats are upholstered in Dark Blue vinyl, and this appears to be free from apparent wear and tear. The fit of the cover on the outer edge of the driver’s seat has moved slightly, but I believe that this could be easily pulled into place. The remaining trim and the rear seat are in fantastic condition for a vehicle of this age and type. There is a cover on the dash, and it isn’t clear whether it might be hiding any problems with the cap. We can only hope that it has been fitted to offer protection to this area of the vehicle. The highlight for me is the carpet. Off-roading can see plenty of mud and gunk find its way into any 4×4. This can have a significant impact on the carpet, but this looks great in this case. The Blazer isn’t loaded with optional extras, but factory air conditioning is a welcome addition.

The Blazer comes equipped with a fuel-injected 305ci V8, a 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, and power brakes. It also features a dual-range transfer case, meaning that it should be able to fully utilize its 170hp and 260 ft/lbs of engine torque when the going gets tough. This was by no means the most potent engine in the Blazer’s armory for 1987, but it was still sufficient to get the vehicle into some pretty remote locations. The owner claims that the Blazer has a genuine 77,000 miles showing on the clock, but he doesn’t indicate whether he holds documentation to back this. He says that it has recently received a tune-up, and it has accumulated less than 50 miles on a new set of tires. He doesn’t specifically say how well the K5 runs or drives, but he does say that everything works as it should.

For anyone with a strong desire to get out into the wilds, vehicles like this 1987 Blazer have to be a tempting proposition. With the bidding at its current level, it is safe to say that there are other examples in the market at the moment that will cost you less. However, those Blazers will almost certainly not be as tidy and clean as this one. They will also have odometer readings that are well into the six-digit territory. This one ticks a lot of the right boxes, and it’s easy to see why so many people would like to give it a new home. Is this one that you would seriously consider?

Very nice K5 and it’s great to see she’s still wearing the budget 4slotted steel wheels – those have become a PITA to locate in 6bolt style. IMO the ’81-’87 face was the most boring on K5s ever, regardless of dual or quad lamps. But; to see a 4spd stick in such a ‘new’ squarebody is a highly welcome sight! 😍
