With 1983 marking a special occasion for the Hurst/Olds, the timing was right to produce a special edition, so Oldsmobile duly produced the 15th Anniversary Hurst/Old. This particular example is a nice car that has undergone a recent refurbishment and presents beautifully. Bidding for this Olds has reached $6,800, and the reserve has been met. The current owner bought the car a few years ago, and after having a lot of work performed on it, now finds that he doesn’t have the time to use it. So he has decided to part with it, and someone looks like they are about to become the owner of a very nice car. The Hurst/Olds recently underwent a repaint in its correct black and silver colors. During this process some minor rust was found under one of the T-Top seals, so this was repaired and new seals were fitted. All of the decals were also replaced in a bid to make the car look as close to new as possible. The owner says that apart from the small rust spot that I’ve just mentioned, that the car is solid and rust free. While the photos aren’t the best, they certainly do indicate that this is an extremely nice Hurst/Olds.

Under the hood is the high-performance version of the 307ci V8, which produces 180hp. This is backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the car also features power steering and power brakes. The owner says that he purchased the car a few years ago and that it has a genuine 39,000 miles on the clock. He had intended using the car as his Summertime weekend cruiser, but this hasn’t eventuated. This means that the car has basically been in storage for the past few years, except for when it has been out at the shops undergoing the refurbishment work. The owner doesn’t indicate how well the car runs and drives, so hopefully, all is well there.

I wish that the photos were a little bit clearer, but the work that has been performed on the interior is the reason why I refer to this as a refurbishment rather than a restoration. The Hurst/Olds features that awesome Lightning Rod shifter, and this is something that really stands out in an already immaculate interior. The car features new carpet and a new headliner. The seats also sport new covers, but these items are leather that has been stitched to the same pattern as the original cloth items. It’s these covers that are the reason for me giving the car the restoration tag. The car comes with the usual complement of power and comfort options, but there are a couple of issues that will need to be addressed. The power seat only moves forwards and backward, but not up and down. The instrument cluster can also be a bit odd, but the owner believes that this might be something as simple as a bad earth, which is quite conceivable. Otherwise, the options like the power windows, power locks, cruise control, and the air conditioning all work as they should.

While there were 3,001 examples of the 1983 model built, these don’t actually come onto the market as often as you might think. When a good one does, it usually sells relatively quickly, and prices of around $17,000 will secure a nice example. From there the price can rise to around $24,000 for an immaculate example. However, in this case, those figures may be irrelevant, because with the reserve having been met, someone is about to become the owner of a very nice Hurst/Olds. Could that someone be you?
