The original owner ordered this Jeep in Alpaca Brown Metallic with the optional hard doors and hardtop for all-weather protection. The only exterior addition is the larger wheels and tires, which will undoubtedly enhance the vehicle’s abilities when the going gets rough or slippery. The paint has the weathered appearance you might expect from a classic that has spent its life in a sunny location, with the factory decals also showing deterioration. However, the same climate that baked the paint has preserved the steel because the underside shots show little beyond the occasional dusting of dry surface corrosion you might expect in such cases. Treating it to prevent deterioration would be wise, but this could happen as time and circumstances allow. The frame is structurally sound, and with the trim and glass in good order, this Jeep allows its new owner to opt for preservation or restoration.
The 1980 Golden Eagle came equipped with the 304ci AMC V8, with this Jeep featuring a four-speed manual transmission and a Dana 20 transfer case. The V8 would have produced 119hp and 229 ft/lbs of torque, and thanks to the low-end delivery of both, it would have tackled any challenge with flair. The seller states the 304 is now a distant memory, with its spot occupied by an AMC 360ci powerplant. The specifications are unclear, but the new owner will undoubtedly welcome the inevitable increase in power and torque. The seller indicates the 360 received a recent rebuild, and they have the supporting documentation and receipts. The odometer stopped working following the engine change and shows an original 44,000 miles. The listing states the vehicle drives well and sounds fantastic, which are both easily believable claims. It seems the new owner can slip behind the wheel of this Jeep and drive off into the sunset.
The Jeep’s interior is tidy and serviceable for a vehicle of this type and age, but it has some shortcomings the winning bidder may choose to address. The front seats wear aftermarket covers, and although there are no rips or tears, there is noticeable wear on the piping. A set of slipcovers would hide the problem, but a meticulous owner might opt for replacements. The carpet is tired and stained, but the rest of the trim is presentable and should look good following a deep clean. Comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, an aftermarket radio/cassette player, a tilt wheel, and a clock.

I’d take it for $6100, but I imagine it’ll bid up to the high teens or more. CJ’s really blew up in popularity there for a while, but have prices softened some? It seems like they might have, but I’m not keeping up with the market much.
I had a 1979 CJ5 golden eagle with a 304 and a 3 speed that I used as a daily driver in college. I bought it for $3500 in the mid/early 90’s with a burnt valve. It needed a top, tires, and seats also.
This one looks like it has the T180 4 speed. A 360 might be a little strong for that trans, but it should be a good driver if you don’t abuse it. I also owned a 1980 cj5 with that trans and a 6 cylinder in high school.
If I was anywhere close, I’d be on it!

My 1st vehicle was a 1975 CJ with a 258 3 speed but I would love this Jeep! 360 Cubes & A/C talk about spoiling a guy! IMHO worth the price at 20 grand if everything checks out but I’m from just south of Toledo , OH so I might be a dyed in the wool jeep nut
Very nice. 6100 I’m sure it will go up but much over 8 or 10k … I mean come on. These are just USED cars. People won’t give the time of day to a family member then dump 15k on a rust bucket that needs another 50k+.

I’m sorry that you have such a grim world view, John. By and large, I don’t think people have ever had it so good. Famine, on a world level, has almost been eradicated. Nobody is waging war like they did in the old days. And beyond that pesky pandemic, people’s health and welfare have never been more well tended to. Hope you find peace, my friend 🙏

You know what John? I’ve disagreed with you in the past, but I, heartily agree, and no surprise to many. Sadly, it’s Bubs view on Lollypop Lane that is seriously misguided, and their “head in the sand” mentality is entirely possible today. No wars? Really? Famine eradicated? What news are they listening to?
I’ve all but given up on this pricing foolishness, and proud to pass the torch to a new generation of complainers. If you thought $6100 was a lot, it’s already over $10gs, allegedly. Remember 2 things, this pricing is all bullplop, and we don’t know what it REALLY sells for, AND, it’s California, where the end of the world as we know it, will originate.

I’ve had a CJ-7 for a long time. It’s a pile of rust now. This one looks to be in very good condition and very useable – it even has a/c. I likeit.
I had a 78 with the 304. Sold it to buy a new TJ in 1996. This one is a dream car for me, but the $$$ will get too high and I need something I can tow a load of hay with
