No Reserve: 1976 Ford F250 4×4 High Boy
The owner of this 1976 Ford F250 treated it to a refurbishment back in 2005. Since then, this classic has only accrued 9,000 miles, and it still presents exceptionally nicely. He has decided that the time has come to part with the vehicle, so he has listed it for sale here on eBay. It is located in Spokane, Washington, and bidding has reached $15,700 in this No Reserve auction.
This F250 is no motoring chameleon. If potential buyers are searching for a classic where they will blend into the background, this won’t be it. However, it stands out for all of the right reasons. The panels appear to be laser straight, while the Bright Red paint holds a beautiful depth of shine. The owner has made a wise move by fitting a hood protector because the hood’s leading edge can be prone to stone chips and other damage. The chrome is in excellent condition, as is the glass. The aftermarket wheels are wrapped in BF Goodrich tires, and these are nearly new.
If there is a downside to the exterior presentation, it revolves around the condition of the bed. This is a workhorse, and it is evident that the F250 has worked to earn its living. There are a few marks and dings, and the paint is quite heavily rubbed. I think that this is beyond a wet sand and polish, and a repaint could be on the cards if it is to present at its best. The other alternative would be to look at a plastic bedliner or treating the bed with a product like Linex. I admit that I had some doubts about this product, but a couple of independent graphic demonstrations have sold me on it. The aluminum checker-plate on the top edges of the bed has been a smart move, while the alloy bar adds to this Ford’s purposeful appearance.
The engine bay of the F250 is another highlight because it is spotlessly clean. What we find nestled in there is a 390ci V8, which is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. This is claimed to be numbers-matching and should be producing somewhere around 161hp. This figure could be slightly higher because the engine has been treated to a more aggressive camshaft. The torque is the big-ticket item with this engine because it should be pumping out somewhere in the vicinity of 280 ft/lbs. With the tow hitch that is attached to this vehicle, that has the potential to be an accomplished tow vehicle. With dual-range 4-wheel-drive and power steering, it should also not be troubled by some harsh off-road terrain. The owner says that the F250 runs and drives well. He also supplies this YouTube video, which provides a walk-around and allows us to hear the 390 running. It sounds beautifully clean and strong, with no evidence of rattles or odd noises.
The buyer isn’t going to have a lot to do with the interior of the F250 because it was treated to a refresh back in 2005. It presents nicely, with no significant problems to address. There is some wear on the faux-chrome around the gauge cluster, but that’s hardly a deal-breaker. The upholstered surfaces are free from stains or wear, while the same is true of the carpet. The painted surfaces follow the exterior’s theme of holding an impressive shine, while the plastic trim also looks pretty nice. There is an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth mounted in the dash, and the original owner ordered this Ford with ice-cold air conditioning.
We’ve all seen these classic pickups where the owner has struggled to find a suitable way of installing aftermarket speakers, but this owner seems to have struck the perfect solution. The original headliner has made way for a Highliner unit, which includes integrated mounts for speakers. I like this solution because not only does it look neat, but it is a change that would be easy to reverse in the future if required. It is a whole lot less intrusive than slicing into door trims and doesn’t look out of place in a vehicle like this.
The bidding on this 1976 F250 4×4 High Boy has been pretty spirited, and it’s easy to see why. Its presentation is above average, and it has a lot to offer its next owner. It has the potential to be a versatile recreational vehicle, and it shouldn’t bat an eyelid if you hooked a respectable load to the tow hitch. There’s not much that it would seem to need except a new owner with a desire to extract the most from this versatile off-roader. Nice truck. These are real popular so this should bring the big bucks. Some of the add-on exterior trim isn’t my speed, but that’s just me and easily changed. Plus you get the almost-mandatory cracked steering wheel (ha). I love that 4-speed shifter with the multiple bends which just screams “I mean business.”
I drove a 1976 F-100 during a summer job in 1976. It was a stripper Flareside, but it was almost new at the time, and I thought I was big-time since I had the newest truck in the fleet (oil field job, I was filling in for an ill employee). I loved that truck. Probably why I like these today. But never in my wildest imagination would I have ever though they would be collectible, even “hot” (albeit, this F-250 is a way more desirable model).
I agree, beautiful truck, but the mud flaps and the bug guard do absolutely nothing for me. Manual transmission & dual range transfer case should make it very desirable.

Beautiful truck. I had the same truck years ago. Beefed up the suspension,and had the motor rebuilt with some minor upgrades. Only to find out later the rebuilder had a less than reputable reputation. Bought a slide in camper and while on vacation,going up Route One in Maine,the engine through a rod just as I crested the hill outside of Moody’s Diner. Wonderful people there,they kept my 1 1/2 year old daughter entertained and fed,and kept my wife calm while we waited for a tow. The campground we had left,let us park the truck on a site,we rented a car, and finished our vacation. I was able to sell the truck and camper to a local guy who wanted a hunting cabin.

Wow. Here I was thinking the only thing wrong with this truck is those mud flaps and that’s easy to lose. It never occurred to me there are no mirrors! This thing is begging for camper special mirrors.

Maybe it’s me, but the first thing I thought of was Needles’ truck in Back to the Future 3. After watching this clip, it’s not quite a match as Needles had a ’78/79 year F150, but other than that, pretty darn close.

just under the wire on the ’77 1/2 end date here’s one I could like. I prefer 2WD long bed for the rd and the step-side short for off but just love any 6th gen (hi boy, bronk, 150, etc). Sources from the right climate too, this one MIGHT be more rust free…
Here’s where ford started the upscale trucks (no ‘delete’ ask 4 camper, rd or off rd mirrors). My search? always for the models w/the lill curb-side tool bx this 1 has. Thought bout makin it a lill bigger for spare, jack, etc…
I noticed the lack of mirrors, too. Not even one on the windshield. A/C is not factory air, it is dealer installed. Notice compressor is missing. I also noticed the long rust split in the passenger side floor pan. May have had a lot of rust on the body panels prior to it’s repaint. A buyer would be wise to do an in-person inspection of this truck.
By VIN number that would be a 360 not a 390. The 390 was not available in that year in 4WD vehicles

That is correct. No 390s in the 4WD trucks from the factory. If this is truly a 390, it was installed later in the truck’s life.
Nice truck. All kinds of ?? on the a/c situation. That’s aftermarket or dealer installed a/c and couldn’t be “ice cold” with no compressor. Would be proud to drive that rig though!
The aftermarket grille is horrible, needs mirrors. This looks like a quick flip truck. The black over spray on the surface rust underneath could have been better…overall pretty nice truck. It will be interesting to see what the sale price is.

BUYER BEWARE on this one!! I bought a vehicle from him on eBay a couple years back, he is a master of taking just the right angle of photo so you don’t see the issue/damage/whatever he’s hiding. After he had my money, he ghosted me HARD and would not answer the phone at all (whereas during the buying/shipping process he was super easy to get a hold of!). MY mistake for buying a vehicle without an in-person inspection, it’s now my penance to not let others be fooled by shady and non-communicative sellers!

May be 73 , 74 or 75 the transfer case is divorced. this model of truck is the best of the best.
