No Reserve 42k-Mile 1960 Chevrolet Corvette
Imagine going to your Chevrolet dealership and buying your wife a 1960 Corvette as an anniversary gift, then when you get it home you’re told she doesn’t like it. That’s probably hard for most of us guys to fathom, as my wife was thrilled with the new toaster I surprised her with on our most recent red letter day. But in spite of his wife’s dissatisfaction, the car stayed in the household until recently, with the good news being it spent most of the time sitting in the garage, so if you’ve been in search of a low mileage C1 that’s been under the same ownership for much of its life this one might be a great candidate. The Corvette is down in Miami, Florida, and can be found here on eBay, with bidding already up to $45,200, but there’s no reserve so the high bidder will be taking it home.
The husband didn’t drive the car much either, as he found it sort of difficult to get in and out of, so some good news is a total of only 42k miles has been accumulated after all this time. The seller recently acquired the car from this man’s family, as sadly he is now in assisted living and they needed funds to help pay for his care costs. It’s not specifically stated whether or not the paint is original, but given the circumstances, I’m thinking there’s a good possibility that could be the original finish, which the seller says is a rare color combination. Plus everything outside just looks stunning from every angle we get to see.
Under the hood sits the original numbers-matching 283, and if you’re like me the first question that came to mind is why was the intake and dual-carb system swapped? Fortunately, it really doesn’t matter, as the original components are still in the trunk and come with the sale. Although the car sat for a long time, it’s now running and driving thanks to a recent fuel-system cleaning, brake work, and the installation of a new radiator. No detailed information is given about the transmission, other than it’s a 4-Speed manual.
Everything inside looks just about as good as outside, and the seller also mentions that the car has a new white canvas top. Most of the gauges are still functioning, but the radio and headlights are going to need some attention. Going back all those years, it’s hard to fathom the wife didn’t cherish her anniversary gift, but perhaps if she had the Corvette wouldn’t be in the nicely preserved condition we’re seeing it in now. What are your thoughts on this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette?

Having lived through the early ’70s gas crisis I’d bet the owner of this car was grabbing at anything that would give him/her more gas mileage. We knew a lot of folks that parked fuel eaters and bought cars with smaller engines and better mileage. We were in that spot with our new ’72 Blazer with a 350 V8 that got 11 mpg. Added a second fuel tank to it and bought a ’65 MGB for $400 to act as the daily driver. Almost everyone else we knew did the same. Prices were bad enough but 50% of the time there wasn’t any gas to buy. If I’d had the Corvette here I would have done the same thing the owner did so I could enjoy my car.
‘…the high bidder will take it home.’ Umm. Too often I’ve seen cars on eBay not bring a high number and the owner withdraw the auction minutes before the gavel hits. If you’re bidding for this please don’t count your chickens before they hatch, as we sat down south.
I’d be hesitant with any Florida car without a personal inspection.
I’d hesitant with anything from Florida without a personal inspection.
Bought his wife a 4-speed Vette but she didn’t like it?
Still hung on to it anyway?
Wonder who he really bought it for?
And….. Dont forget….. Dual quads for her too??? I mean really? 4 barrel yes i could see…. But dual quads???? Sure he bought it for HER!!!!
I wouldn’t believer a word this scammer says.
In the Corvette Community, this seller has a less than stellar reputation for piecing together Vettes that look okay, but are all pieces of crap.
A reader here on BF got sucked in and has a boatload of work ahead of him that he did not count on.
BUYER BEWARE!
There are so many other honest Vettes for sale that it just surprises me every time this seller is featured here on BF.
