The seller of this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS mentions that this one would make a good parts car, and even if it was just a standard Super Sport, I might have to disagree and express my optimism that it’s probably worthwhile returning to the road.  That desire is amplified significantly here, as this one is the NASCAR-inspired model known as the Aerocoupe, aptly named because of the streamlined rear window.  My hope is that somebody out there will put the needed effort into this somewhat uncommon Chevy to get it back on the streets, instead of disassembling and parting it out.

While the fourth-generation Monte Carlo SS cars are plentiful, the aero back versions were only offered for two years, with just 200 produced for the 1986 model.  This number grew considerably in 1987, with more than 6,000 rolling off the assembly line.  However, with over 33,000 ordinary Super Sport examples made that year, the aeroback is a rarity by comparison.

This is one of those listings where the seller provides very little background information, but he does inform us that somebody borrowed the engine and transmission.  This would have been a 305 V8, making around 180 horsepower, paired with an automatic.  Even with the lack of serious power, it would have been nice to find the factory drivetrain still intact.  However, that’s not to be, so this one’s ripe for whatever the next caretaker sees fit to stick under the hood.

Outside, things are a bit rough in places, with some visible rust and a fairly significant crunch on the passenger side fender.  Despite the body blunders, the exterior appears complete, plus it’s good news that this one is equipped with T-Tops, which are said to be in good shape along with the rest of the glass.  It looks like the factory wheels are still present as well.

The interior also seems to be pretty much all there, but with the soiling on the steering wheel, it makes me curious about the storage conditions before the coupe ended up in the parking spot where it’s sitting now.  I get that this one’s a project and will require attention in just about every department, but to imply it’s nothing beyond a parts car seems harsh.  The Chevy’s fate will ultimately be decided by the future owner, and if you’ve already got ideas the car is located in Spring, Texas, and can be seen here on eBay, where the no-reserve auction is currently resting at $4,650.  How would you move forward with this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe?
