Nice Original: 1936 Cord 810

1936 Cord 810

It’s rare that you find a car this old (79 years old this year!) that’s essentially in nice “used car” condition. This example of a truly iconic design can be found in Lake Forest, Illinois and is for sale here on eBay with an opening bid of $35,000 and no reserve. The seller describes it as “the consummate barn find” and its condition is exceptional, but not pristine. Everything works, the paint is presentable although having minor cracking, and less than 44,000 miles have rolled under its wheels. The engine currently will kick over on starting fluid but the fuel tank hasn’t been cleaned yet, so the owner hasn’t run it much. Personally, I’d love to know if it would run off a bottle! What about you? This is a bonafide classic!

That’s one amazing car. That car get good money the way it is. I would love to have one but the price puts it out of reach for me.

I would sell my left lung and right kidney to own a car made by ACD in the 1930’s.

So, Jarod, you can keep the kidney, but how much do you want for the lung?

“consummate barn find and a certified classic”
“one of the best looking sedans ever made”

Very true. It’s an unexpected pleasure to see a car like this on Ebay, in contrast to the many rust buckets the site seems to attract these days. It’s a shame that it hasn’t received a bid so far, while some of those rust buckets that will be bottomless money pits to restore get multiple bids.

The open Cords get most of the attention and money, but if this car is as original and fit as it looks the $35K open bid number would be a very decent price. They only made 1,764 Cords of all body types in 1936, and this one is priced at the bottom of the price range in the SCM Guide and is significantly cheaper than any of the ’36 Cords available online right now.

The car looks like it could be driven home now, although those low pressure tires might not make it a safe journey. Best to replace them ASAP. It seems to be honestly presented but you would want engine bay and underside photos before taking things any further.

I really hope it receives at least the open bid price and goes to someone who will treat it well and take care of it. It’s one of the most appealing designs to ever come out of No America during the 1930s.

I remember seeing this car on face book when the seller first purchased it. Beautiful car, it’s a shame they didn’t get all the kinks worked out.

I looked at the ad photos. That is one gorgeous dashboard. I would sell my wife for that car…..But then, I would probably sell her for a Yugo at this point.

So nice that I would be inclined to touch it up, get it running and drive/show as a restored “survivor”.

After looking at this car thoroughly, I see one very serious problem – that it is not in my garage!
