Neon Orange: 1976 Chevrolet Camaro LT
Camaro fans of the mid 1970’s didn’t have too much to get excited about when it came to acceleration and horsepower. The Camaro was still a good looking car and thanks to the success of the Pontiac Trans Am, the Z28 would make a reappearance in 1977. This 1976 Chevrolet Camaro is listed here on Craigslist for $10,000. The seller says he or she is firm on the price so don’t even ask or they will “ignore you.” The Camaro is located in Winlock, Washington and the car was listed about 5 days ago.
The interior of the car looks to be in great shape. the white seats almost look like the fabric is made from a houndstooth design. The car has lots of options including factory air conditioning (not working), power windows, power door locks and tilt steering. The ad says that the Camaro has “Defrost on Windows” which I am not sure if that means the front windshield defrost works or it has the optional rear defrost. It does not appear to have rear defrost looking at the pictures. All the gauges and lights are said to be in working order.
In terms of the powertrain, the Camaro is equipped with a small block 350 cubic inch V8 engine that was rebuilt about 5 years ago. The rebuild included a small RV cam so hopefully that improved the torque output of the engine. The car does have headers and new dual exhaust. The standard or base engine in the 1976 Camaro was an inline 6 cylinder engine coming in at 250 cubic inches. The standard engine in the LT model was a 305 cubic inch V8 engine rated at 140 horsepower. The 350 cubic inch V8 was only available with a 4 barrel carburetor and was rated at a whopping 165 horsepower.
The new brushed stainless steel section on the rear of the car was new for the LT model. Power brakes were now standard and this car also has power steering. Despite the lack of a true performance model, the Camaro still sold well. Total units increased from 145,770 Camaros in 1975 to 182,959 units in 1976. The car rides on factory Rally wheels and the front suspension is said to be rebuilt. If orange is your color, this Camaro might be the one for you.

Bruce, the switch for the rear defogger is on the dashboard under the cigarette lighter. You can just see it in the listing. It is a black toggle switch with hi and lo settings. This year Camaro used a two speed fan for the defogger, not the in glass wires.
Looks like a Maaco paint job, clearly painted of rust in some spots on the lower panel behind the driver door and the right rear quarter panel. For this car in this condition I think $10k is a little steep I bet if you pulled out $7k cash in hand standing next to the car they would take it. You would think they would at least clean the leaves and other junk from the trees out from under the hood before posting but I guess your paying $7k for the car and $3k for dead leaves from Western Washington.

Hey its my favorite! When I was a kid the General Lee was favorite color because it was not true orange or true red, kinda in-between. Then decades later I learned it was a mid 70s GM color, Orange Flame Code 70 I believe, beautiful color!
Knew someone that had a new one, just like this, except full white vinyl interior. Super sharp!
I saw one of these, a 74, at a recent show painted hugger orange with the white stripes. It had front and rear spoiler, a cowl hood, white seats with black dash and carpet and nicely built engine. Set of 8″ Vette rallys all around and was a real eye catcher. Low budget way to enter cars n coffee events and can be an eye catcher. You don’t see these around any more.
NTR. Needs Trim Rings.
A set of crager ss wheels wrapped in bfg radial T/A’s and a rear spoiler would help that orange paint look alot better…
If Jim Rockford drove a Camaro, it’s this model. Gold or beige paint of course. 😎

As a Syracuse fan I love it! If this car was on the east coast, I’d be all over it.
I’d take it if I lived close. Needs a rear spoiler and probably a pseudo hood scoop. Really trick it out like a 19 year old from the 80’s and it would turn lots of heads and just plain ole be fun.
The solid mechanical condition and seemingly solid body along with clean interior makes this easily worth 10K in today’s market.
It’s actually nice to see a somewhat preserved 2nd gen that is NOT a Z28 and not all turkeyed up with aftermarket crap. Most I see these days have redneck mods that are difficult to reverse… Grant GT steering wheels, B&M shifters, non-stock gauges… yuck!
I totalled mine in 77. Blinding snow storm. Hit a stuck truck from the rear. Really messed the car up. I walked away.
