Numbers-Matching Classic: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray
This 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray has spent most of its life in California, but it has trekked north to cooler climes. The owner has now decided to part with this beautiful-looking classic, so has listed it for sale here on eBay. The Corvette is located in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, and the owner has set a BIN price of US$48,000. The option is also available to make an offer.
This really is a stunning looking car, and if the information that the owner provides is correct, the beauty is more than just skin deep. The Rally Red paint looks really good in the supplied photos, but the owner does admit that the rear end of the car is a bit faded. This doesn’t actually show in the photos, so we’ll just have to take his word on that. Both the hardtop and the black soft0top look like they are also in good condition, while the external chrome, trim, and side-pipes also look pretty good. When you delve below the surface, the owner says that the frame of the Corvette is nice and solid.
Open the door and climb inside the Corvette and what you find isn’t disappointing. The trim, dash, the teakwood wheel, and carpet all look good, while the leather-upholstered seats are close to perfect. If I can find one thing to note, it’s the fact that it appears that the original radio has made way for a retro style aftermarket unit. Replacing that shouldn’t be a problem, but unless you are seeking perfection, then it probably wouldn’t be a priority.
It just keeps getting better with this car, because it is a numbers-matching vehicle. That means that nestling under the hood is the 300hp version of the 327ci V8, and a 4-speed manual transmission. The owner says that the car has not only been well maintained, but that it recently received new brakes, new tires, and a new clutch. That should make this a lively little performer, and while the owner doesn’t specifically mention how well the car runs and drives, it not only promises to be a fun thing, but the side-pipes should provide a suitable soundtrack to that fun.
If you look at this 1965 Corvette Sting Ray as a total package, it does stack up well. The fact that it is a numbers-matching car is the first positive. Being offered with both a soft-top and a factory hardtop is also a plus, while optional items such as the leather seats and the teakwood wheel just add to the package. Put all of this together and you end up with a pretty desirable car and one that most people would be proud to park in their driveway.

No Corvette expert, but that doesn’t look like the teak wheel to me, it sure looks like the wood grained plastic complete with a nice crack at the 6 o’clock position. In addition to the aftermarket radio, it also has a Hurst shifter. But, a side pipe car with both tops looks pretty good I think for the price… maybe?
I noticed the same thing, that the steering wheel looks like the plastic version with the crack at 6 o’clock.
Hey Corvette guys-Years ago the prevailing argument was this engine combination was preferred for drivers (as opposed to boulevard racers) for the hp vs lbs for handling-never got the opportunity to drive either or both to make my own opinion so what do you think?
And are those real knockoff wheels or just hubcaps?
First year for disc brakes. Leather was only available in Saddle Tan, black would have been vinyl. Love the colors and options. Especially the hard and soft top. This car checks all the right boxes for me. Unfortunately my bank account says NO. Too bad.
I don’t know much about anything but when you look on this website and you see cars that are almost junk and they want 12000 for them And you know it’s gonna cost 40000 to make I’m decent if you ever get around to finishing it well 48000 doesn’t look like a terrible price It sure is a pretty car

I see the standard hubcaps, not knock-offs.
Those are standard looking hubcaps. Those are available aftermarket so I’m not sure if they’re original to the car but if they are they’re date coded. I had a ‘64 coupe that was similarly equipped but mine was original except for tires, belts, and the battery. Long gone to another happy soul.
First year for four wheel disc brakes and big block engine option.
Also worth noting, last year for the fuelie as well. If the rust free and matching numbers claims are true, this is in the ballpark on price.
Shifter not right..
Great driver quality car, very fairly priced. Buy it now, love on it fix the radio, and get a correct shifter, and a few other items, and you will get a nice return on your investment in five years.

If I had the space and the $$. I’d be looking this one over. It looks good from the pictures but I’d want a personal inspection done on it. This looks like one that’s ready to hit the highway in and enjoy the drive.
Great looking car and besides the little nit pick things it is in really nice condition not to mention the recent Vetts we’ve seen here are going for almost as much as this one and they needed $40,000 to be put into them to get to the shape this one is in!!!

Cost about what the average price for a decent SUV goes for these days. I know, 2 completely different driving requirements, but puts that 48K price into perspective.
