Older Repaint: 1968 Dodge Charger R/T 440
Looking at this 1968 Dodge Charger now, it’s kind of hard to imagine it actually began life as an FF1 Light Green car, but I’m kind of digging the new color and lots of other things about this B-Body. The Charger is one of those cars with some attributes I like about every year of the second-generation model, a run which went from 1968 through 1970, but from the rear, those round taillights you got in ’68 are hard to beat if you ask me. This one’s had quite a bit of recent work, so if you’re looking for a nice driver it may be a good candidate to consider. The car is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and can be found here on eBay, where bidding has reached the $50,000 mark so far.
We don’t get any before-type photos prior to the color change, but the rear valance was replaced and the passenger side lower quarter panel was repaired before the respray, and now the body appears pretty good with the gaps seeming to line up quite well for the most part. The owner says the new paint job was applied in 2012, and while it’s claimed to be good it’s not free of some imperfections, such as a few runs and some dirt specs. A new vinyl top was put on the same year, but more recently in 2020, the car received some more cosmetic attention, including the re-chroming of both bumpers and some other trim pieces.
The Charger does have a 440 under the hood, but it’s not the numbers-matching component and instead has a date code of 1967. Both the motor and automatic transmission were rebuilt approximately 10,000 miles ago, and we are also treated to a short video here on YouTube of the car running and doing a minor burnout, with the 440 sounding strong. Also in 2020 a considerable amount of brake work was performed, including a front disc conversion, plus a new gas tank was added, along with a new fuel pump and stainless steel fuel lines.
Things inside are looking even better than I was expecting, with some new parts from Legendary like door panels and upholstery. What looks like it started as a trio of aftermarket gauges is actually now only a duo, but other than this small detail I’m having a hard time finding much to complain about regarding the interior. The parts we can see down below are looking reasonably solid as well, although the trunk pan has some pitting but no actual rusted-through areas. I’m liking this Charger the way it is, but realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and wondering if the next owner will want to return it to the original green color. What would you do?

Very nice and sharp looking, but I might be a little biased, as my preference is the 1970 version, as shown by my 70 Charger 500! GLWTA!! :-)
Such a beautiful car! 318? Love the Magnums, though I also like the full wheel covers on this car as that is the way almost all cars had back in the day. Reminds me of my long lost youth.
Thanks!! Yes, a 318 w/ 143k+ actual miles on the original drivetrain, and unrestored! :-)
LOVE it Moparman!! Thanks for sharing the photo.
Looks like we have a few plain jane fans here, this car needs the stripe on the backend and some nice looking wheels and tail light area painted black, what you think guys and gals?
Yes, I’m very partial to the 70 model like you I had a 70 Charger 500 with a 4 speed . A car I now regret selling but that was in 1974 who knew.
Nice Charger with date code 67 engine. If remember correctly 67 heads had better valves for the engine to breathe better. Also there is no call outs of engines on this Charger, which is cool and nobody would know it’s a 440!! 68s are hard to find in any condition. Already over $55,000 with 5days to go. I won’t be surprised if it hits $65,000. This is a great Mopar!!
Black engine bay and body color tail panel…..not what you want when spending that kind of money.
Also, it could be the pics, but the color looks LL (turquoise) instead of QQ (blue)
The 67 440 had Closed Chamber heads an that quench area would ignite the cheap fuel we had to use that arrived in early 70’s.
That famous Pinging sound would result.
My new 68 Charger RT was G1 green, green vinyl, green interior.
Those Turbine exhaust looking tail lights were so unique.
I like these in the less toy-like colors like this. Needs some era correct, taller, narrower, thin whitewalls or redlines. Almost looks like those wheel covers are on a wider than stock rim.
Ended. $15000?
best guess… it sold privately in the driveway
What did I miss here, the bid was up to 50k and it sold for 15k?
It actually got over $55k 🤷♂️
