One Owner 1962 Corvette Barn Find

1962 Corvette In The Barn

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We love the first generation Corvette, with its amazing Harley Earl design, lightweight fiberglass body, and fantastic V8 power plant. What we love even more is finding one stashed away in someone’s old barn. This 1962 Corvette has been parked in the original owner’s barn since 1972 and the guys over at ChevyVetteParts.com rescued it from further deterioration. They are now offering the car here on eBay, where the current bid is already at $25,700. The car can be inspected at their Bedford, Pennsylvania facility.

1962 Corvette Outside Of Barn

Even though this Corvette has set in Rhode Island for the last 49 years, it looks to be structurally solid and in good shape. The fiberglass body panels all look great and even the door gaps look good. The Honduras maroon paint is 95 percent original and should look great after a good cleaning and polishing.

1962 Corvette Engine

There are a couple areas of concern that may impact the value of this Corvette. The first thing that has us concerned is the fact that at some point this car’s original 327 was swapped for a 350 V8. It was swapped before the car was parked, so it’s not running, but it spins freely. The other concern we have is the rust on the frame rails. We don’t see any areas where it has eaten through, but it’s hard to tell without an inspection. We hope it’s just surface rust, but we would definitely take a closer look and make sure.

1962 Corvette Barn Find Interior

The black interior looks good, just dirty. A good cleaning should be enough to get things back in shape here. The seller does mention that the dash pad has been replaced but claims that everything else is original inside. We just hope that no rodents took up residence in there.

1962 Corvette Rear Corner

Other than the engine, this Corvette is otherwise original and would make a great candidate for a complete restoration or as a fantastic driver. We would be inclined to leave it original, get the 350 running, and drive the heck out of it. We just wonder if the $32,000 asking price is a bit too high for a Corvette without its matching engine. What do you guys think? Is it a good buy or should it go back in the barn?

wow! get it running!! what a waste if it just sits there! 32k is a little strong, its gonna take a few to get it up to speed. I’d find a 327 and put it back to almost stock. And lose the trailer hitch!! What!!

That does seem a little high but with the prices these cars are getting, I suppose anything is possible.

seems to be a nice vette, but bring the price down some cause I would have to put a 327 engine back in it. I like my classics the way it came from the factory!!!!

I’d say that price is right on target, IF it had the original 327. Otherwise, that’s a bit high. I cringed when I read that part. Up until then, this was seemingly the perfect barn find. A damn shame.

Can’t recall the last time I’ve seen a hitch ball on the back of a Vette. Wonder what the owner pulled with it?

Nice find. The way it sits 22K is fair if your brother owns a repair/detail shop. A thorough inspection would be mandatory. Bloomington car corral candidate.

This is a great find! I think it should be thoroughly cleaned, install a NOM date-coded 327 and go cruising. Could bring mid-$30K if done right. Keep the hitch as I bought a ’66 2-top roadster back in the early ’70s & with a hitch and towed a tent trailer to Yosemite camping – got plenty of looks & thumbs-ups! http://www.newstalgiamotors.com

yeah, I like ’em the way they came from the factory also. I say take the hitch off, and use it as a daily driver.

Congratulations Jim, please snap a few photos when you get it cleaned up and let us know what you think. We could do a success story feature or something. Have fun!
