One of 47: 1985 ASC McLaren Mercury Capri
Don’t I always say we’re done seeing the ASC McLaren for a while, and then another one shows up? It really does seem to happen a lot, and I was just all hot and bothered by that red one we featured recently. Here comes another ASC McLaren, which has to be one of the most unlimited limited production cars there is. This one features a black exterior over a tan cabin, and is also located in New England, like the red car. Find it here on craigslist in Concord, New Hampshire, for $6,300.
The McLaren looks sharp in black paint over gold mesh wheels, and the paint appears to present quite well for a driver-quality car. The seller claims only 47 cars were made in this color combo, and that this is car number 231 out of 260 made. The car is said to remain almost entirely stock except for the Flowmaster mufflers that you see here, and while I generally prefer completely original cars, there’s no denying how good a 5.0 sounds with a freer flowing exhaust.
The interior is in excellent shape as well, especially for having 46,000 miles on the clock. The Recaros are one of my favorite features of the ASCs, and these have speakers in the headrests. Perhaps they all did, but this is the first I’m noticing it. The carpeted surfaces are also in great shape, and about the only flaw I can see is the fact that it’s an automatic! The seller say it’s not a show car, but the A/C still works and it comes with an in-period car phone, which makes it pretty much perfect in my eyes.
I love details like this – you just don’t see this level of originality on Mustangs. The seller claims he drives it every day but that there’s no rot to speak of, which is impressive considering he resides in New Hampshire. Perhaps he means he drives it every day in the summer, or just on dry days in the winter. Regardless, it looks like a nicely preserved example, and seems like a great buy at just $6,300.

Actually this is my car. I bought it beginning of summer for my dad to drive while he was up from Florida. After he went home I started to drive it and love it. The wear and tear match the odometer but I have absolutely no proof it’s not 146 and I tell everyone that. It was from CT and the original owner took it to Florida for years then it sat in a couple of garages before I bought it. I converted the ac and have been taking it daily around and on most weekends on long 2-300 mile rides and it’s great. It’s not perfect but it’s nice. And the price reflects it.love the web site and all the different vehicles that are shown.
I live across the street, in Epsom.
I live down the street, in Hooksett.
I love the car and think it is a good price, but auto removes half the fun of owning it, for me.
You may be able to track the mileage by running a CarFax.
Hey Uncle Buck! I think its a great car, and way underpriced for its condition and rarity (even at 146,000 miles). Only $6300?? This is a LOT of car for not much scratch!
Good luck – should sell in seconds!

Merc Capri was the well optioned Fox mustang. I agree about the low price as McLarens were pricey and usually were reserved for executive types wanting a Fox body mustang experience.
Disclaimer: I owned a ‘79 Capri first year fox body.
