One of a Kind P/U! 2000 Chevrolet S-10 Packard
The S-10 was Chevrolet’s popular compact pickup built from 1982 to 2003. And the Packard 200 was the company’s entry-level sedan produced in 1951 and 1952. For reasons unknown, someone has taken sheet metal from the latter and applied it to the former, making for one interesting pickup. With 4-wheel-drive and modern conveniences, this is a running vehicle that should garner a lot of attention at Cars & Coffee for a low entry price. Located in Oswego, New York, (if unsold) the asking price here on Facebook Marketplace is $3,200. Thanks for the weird tip, Barn Finder George!
As a distinction, the Chevy S-10 (rebadged at GMC at first the S-15, then later Sonoma) was the first U.S.-built compact pickup from the “Big 3”. It was rated as a ¼ ton pickup, capable of a smaller payload than the bigger trucks. The vehicles were treated to a restyle in 1994, so that would have been the basis for the 2000 S-10 extended cab used in this pickup’s transformation. They were powered by either a 2.2-liter inline-4 or a 4.3-liter V6 and we’re not quite sure which one is in this oddity. It’s been well-used with at least 135,000 miles on the clock.
How this hybrid of truck and car came about isn’t known and we don’t know how well the work was performed. Someone took the sheet metal from a ’51 or ’52 Packard 200 (we think) and grafted it onto this truck. It could be that the black paint was already worn when this all took place, or it’s weathered with time and exposure.
We’re told this Chevy/Packard is driven daily and it sports 4-wheel disc brakes and working air conditioning. It’s more economical than the Packard would have been with a combined mpg of 18 using an automatic transmission. There is no mention of any problems that need correcting and, if there’s any rust, it’s hiding somewhere. But if you’re looking for something to cruise around in that no one else will have, this could be it!

Well, it’s different. I’m actually impressed a little. No. I think I kinda dig it. Of course, recreational weed is legal in my state. Just saying. You’d sure look twice if ya saw it. Glad it isn’t closer. Lol
This was definitely built before recreational weed was available in NY.
Looks like this transformation took place on weekends, after many 24 packs and a couple bottles of Jack.
And several packs of non-filtered cigarettes
Definitely wearing beer goggles……..proportions are all right..I mean wrong.
A real bad combination….rednecks, tools and mind altering substances, not to mention Grandpa Jenkins is looking for his beloved Packard. His retirement is now in jeopardy.
Reminds me of that quote by Jeff Goldblum’s character in Jurassic Park: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.”
It’s a good thing that ya’ll can’t see me as I am literally rolling on the floor laughing my *ss off.
While I can admire the mechanical talent, someone that the perpetrator knows should have said “Do you think that we can find a better candidate for this???”
The 1972 Plymouth B-body next to it is much more interesting than this
It looks a bit awkward.
I knew there would be some haters, and maybe it did require some “drinkin’ and weldin’ but just look at how the S-10 door body line accentuates the sweep of the quarter panel, pure genius or pure luck. Though it will never be a 100 point show car it needs to be finished and painted in 50’s pastels. I wish it wasn’t so close to me.
Definitely interesting I can’t say its something I would have tried but hey it runs and drives and its a 4X4 at this asking price you can buy it and take it to Texas for Red necks with pay checks and probably triple your investment and most of all just have fun with it.
‘There is no mention of any problems that need correcting’ …. Yet in my opinion the whole darn thing is all wrong. The William Robert special (aka Billy Bob) p/u describes it perfectly and I don’t mean pickup. No doubt meth had a significant role in it’s creation
The time spent would have been better served painting park benches in his community.
Engine is the Vortec 4.3 litre V-6.
Had the same engine in my 1997 Blazer S-10.
Just because you can doesn’t necessarily mean you should create an abomination as such
Yup, that bit of advice “coulda vs shoulda” remains solid!
Why Jack, afraid you’re gonna buy it?
It’s not at all different than the cars we built in the ’60s and ’70s. Some of
the stuff we built back then was polarizing– you either loved it or hated it. And yeah, I put my hands in this type of outlandishness too when
I dropped a ’57 392 hemi into a ’61
Plymouth Valiant and proceeded to
tweak the elephant to the tune of 750
HP going to the rear wheels by way of
a beefed up 727 Torqueflite pirated
from a police car. I think I put a Dana
60 out back but time and 3 ministrokes have made that memory
somewhat cloudy today. Long story short, that car got me into a lot of
trouble with the police the day my BIL
and I took Frankenval out and lit the
tires up in front of our county courthouse. The cop that caught us
had a revolving ticket book when he
cited me for no hood, open headers,
obstruction of forward view out the
windshield, (I was running a 6-71 GMC
blower topped with dual quads) and
illegal tires, (I had 13 inch wide wrinkle wall slicks in the rear) along
with reckless driving and illegal exhibition of speed. I beat going to
jail by taking the judge’s advice and selling the car to a friend of Dad’s
who raced it at the dragstrip in
Assumption, Illinois where it ran 13s
in the quarter mile running out of breath at 152.5 MPH. Remember folks, it would be a rather dull world if
not for the ability to create and be
different.
Did you say 13s and 150 mph in the 1/4?
Tooling on the Interstate will be great FUN…
Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder. If you like it, go for it, and make it your own. Not my cup of tea, but I applaud the effort to take what was probably a wrecked S-10 and breathe new life into it with what they had available.
FWIW, I’ve been on BF for years but I’ve never seen such haters rudely commenting on other people’s visions as I have in the last few months. It’s a hobby, for God’s sake. Let’s see what YOU built. Probably nothing.
Couldn’t agree more. There’s never a loss of “experts” on this site.
Absolutely true, Mike, and the thing is, we have no way of knowing just how “expert” some of these folks are. One thing for sure is over the years I’ve developed a pretty BS detector and equate some of these posters like those on the internet who post great things, but in fact, lack a lot in person. For me, I never knew this thing even existed, and I’m like some here… just because you could doesn’t mean you should have… but everybody has a belly button, so opinions are the same.
I agree with you both. Even a year ago there were seemingly much less of the commenters here ready to quickly condemn someone for their opinion including the writers of the articles. Clearly everyone should be able have and express an opinion, but not at someone else’s expense.
These so called experts create death traps for the next owner with sub -standard welds and poor design ideas. It was fine years go when cars had less horsepower. I’m actually shocked that lawsuits have not surfaced.
If it yard art fine but someone could actually get killed here.
I do agree with you. For good or bad, this one is an odd combination. Art allows a unique vision, but will garner comments on all ends of the spectrum. If you want to be a visionary then you had better have tough skin. So while the hater comments have increased significantly recently they are nothing new to this site. Believe me… I am an owner and supporter of the “rotary engine”. There have been armchair experts and self appointed genius’ on this site for over a decade.
Does this mean there are some folks out there that didn’t like the Cadillac finned rear grafted to the rear of the Chevy pickup a few weeks ago?
Bob, you’ll have to remind me of which one that was “Cadillac fin grafted to Chevy pickup”. I am not much of a fan of either half, so I doubt I would like the whole. But I don’t recall commenting on it either. I often look at the “Frankenstein” creations out of curiosity. I do recall a coffin car with a pinto engine that I found grossly disappointing. but that is only my opinion.
Agreed, PNP.
Though I can’t decided whether this is a chimera or a hermaphrodite, I marvel at the motivation, creativity, and skill that went into its making.
Well said.
what would Ian say about this ?
Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should…..
@ojr: Yes I did. As I said, I sold the
car to a family friend who raced it
regularly at Assumption Dragway in
Assumption, Illinois. He told me that he had a few runs where he was clocked at 150 MPH and 13.5
seconds in the SQM. After he passed away, the car was sold by
his widow and that’s when I lost track of it. Friends of mine who
frequented the track said that they
had seen the car as late as 2009
and nothing afterwards, Who knows, we just might see it here on
BF!
Can’t wait for hot rodding to start with E-vehicle and a few thousand volts.
Since 1996 check out National Electric Drag Racing Association

There are also “crate E-motor/transmissions” hitting the market from our big 3 automakers.
keep the ’52 interior, the rest of that.
And if there’s the opaque sail panels, have the trunk lid stretch all the way to the back seat/window/bed head board. I almost did same to a torino FB, like the hudson traveler or others – Soooper hatch.
Yup
Look at some of these hateful comments , it wasn’t like this before …
So , what has changed in the last year ?
Politics?
Vaccine side effects ?
Deaths?
Fear of death?
Sudden death?

Or, no sense of humor.
Actually quite common around here tho I’ve never seen the S10 cab incorporated. Usually just mount the body on to the S10 frame. Lots of early 50s Chevy pickups done that way and if done right makes a really nice daily driven truck.
Listed 4 weeks ago
AT asking price of $3200
I can’t find the part in the ad that states how much they will pay to have someone take this away.
Why not just fully body swap the truck. Oh you want the s10 interior you could have cut at the firewall and floor pan and dropped the Packard over the Chevy. You’d have a Packard on a Chevy frame with Chevy interior and it would look like less of a cluster. This is a meth problem. Not a drinking problem
