Only 9K Miles! 1973 Chevrolet C-10

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I have opined before about Mopar Mania and Chevy Craziness and today’s find, a 1973 Chevrolet C-10, reinforces that thought process. Square body (1973-1987) Chevrolet pickup trucks are hot right now, no doubt about it. But here, we have a survivor C-10 that has been bid to $62,600 (yikes!) and the reserve has still not been met in spite of 91 bids from sixteen bidders. Let’s see what’s driving this craziness. This very fine subject is located in Cave Creek, Arizona and is available, here on eBay.

Assembled in September of ’72, this C-10 is considered a very early example and its sequence number of 6337 supports that supposition but the claim of, “This truck is believed to be one of the first square body trucks ever produced on the GM assembly line!” is not exactly accurate – but I’m with him on the early claim. This example is equipped with RPO Z84 which is the Cheyenne package, including chromed bumpers, chromed grille, additional bright moldings, chrome hubcaps, chromed mirrors, door handles, etc. To cut to the chase, it doesn’t look like it has a single thing wrong or out of place. The Mohave tan/white two-tone paint combination was one of the more popular finishes in ’73 – and this one still shows like new.

Power is provided by a 155 net HP, 350 CI V8 engine working via a three-speed manual transmission. The seller states, “Showing no visible leaks, no smoke or issues from the engine, and runs out virtually like a brand new 1973 C10 did back in the day!“. It is mentioned that the exhaust system has been replaced and it’s a dual system which I don’t believe was standard, or available in ’73 with this engine. Technically, that detracts from the survivor category but it’s a real nit to pick, so I won’t.

Inside is as fine as the outside with the Cheyenne package providing a full foamed (is there any other way?) bench seat covered in a cloth and vinyl combination (or an upscale all vinyl as in this case) upholstery, molded door panels with faux wood grain inserts, more fake wood on the dash, nylon loop carpet, molded plastic headliner, and additional insulation, among other niceties. This truck also features optional A/C (working!) and engine gauges.

Ok, you may as well see what $62K+ gets you, please check out this video. A popular pickup model? You bet! Beautiful? Absolutely! Well documented? Of course! $62K worth of well-documented, popular beauty? Sounds like Chevy Craziness to me. I like it and wish more pickup trucks today were similar in size and design to this one. But what are you going to do with it? If you use it, you’ll lose it, in terms of value that is, and if you store it, and just stare at it, then what? All I can add at this point is GLWTA, how about you?

I was going to jokingly say that someone would pay
    $50,000 for this,then I saw the $62,600 (shill) bid.
    Looks like a dealer/flipper (again),thinking someone
would actually pay more than that.I’m surprised it doesn’t
say “Reserve not met” under the bid.

It does read “reserve not met” under the bid.

Sorry that’s just crazy, all the previous models are gone and the square body is next on the list I guess.

My baloney has a 1st name,,,must you keep giving that knife in my gut a turn? Oh, she’s a beaut, no doubt, but I’ve made peace with this foolishness. 3rd pedal going to kill the deal for many, and this only shows, if it IS legit, how far off course this world really is. These people better enjoy this now, because I doubt the next sale will be as profitable.
And for the record, it’s 109K on a truck someone took meticulous care of.

The front bumper gaps are off . Wider on the passenger side than the driver side. I bet it’s an LMC bumper.

Only one problem with this truck….it’s a short bed lolol.Just kidding as I’m partial to long beds. Otherwise it’s beautiful. 62 k beautiful ummm no.I also agree with the author. What do you do with it?You use it you lose it and trucks were made to use.I like nice survivors with solid scratched up beds….long beds.I had to say that.

Say goodbye to all of the long beds. Once these short bed model become popular, all of the long beds get cut up and converted.

$64,000 and the reserve is not met yet?!! I can get a pre-owned Chrysler certified Ram 4wd with a 392 Hemi. with all the comfort I want. Sorry this is insane price! Yes it is beautiful but it’s two-wheel drive and three on a tree. But, what I like about it… 350 4 bbl under the hood with AC. One more day to go and it’s going to be interesting to see where the hammer falls on this. 🐻🇺🇸

They say the ultimate modern-day anti-theft device is a manual transmission. A three-speed column shift would send that theory into the stratosphere. Although everyone in my household knows how to shift a manual, the column-shift part still confuses them.

Nice truck overall, even if the price has long surpassed my budget. I won’t debate on whether this truck actually has 9K miles or is on Round Two, it would still be a great truck to have. I sure wouldn’t turn it down. I might add that as far as originality and genuine low miles goes there’s a ’69 Cheyenne pickup out west that only has (maybe) 7K miles on it.

It belonged to a local auctioneer who bought a new pickup every year. They were always loaded and this one was no exception, with a 396, auto, A-C and nearly everything else you could imagine. I still remember that purple metallic/white paint job. Anyways, it’s in a heated garage in the original home town where it was originally sold.

And that part really bothers me. If you’ve got it, drive it! Have some fun with it.

I agree with you about the mileage claim, geomechs.

If one of the main reasons for shelling out this kind of money is based on the low mileage, I would demand proof – who buys a truck to only drive it a few miles?

Maybe those registration cards would have some proof?

Nice Cheyenne – my ’76 (rust) and ’81 (paint, water leak, electrical, suspension) SWB Chevys were troublesome, most of the issue was a useless dealer. I still like the ‘square body’ no matter what. Bidding has already gone well beyond what I think it may be worth.

    Darn – I missed it.I should’ve bid $100,000.

I never worry about the reserve not being made yet. When I sold classics on ebay, I’d have an astronomical reserve on purpose. So at auction end when didnt sell, the offers by email came in asking what the reserve was. Then can take the best offer from those that are interested & can avoid the ebay sellers fee’s.

I learned to drive stick on a 73 C10. Bare bones truck. No ac, no power anything. 3 on the tree. No radio. My dad ordered it from the factory. Burnt orange was the color. White bumpers with a vinyl set that would pull the skin off every surface that touched it in the summer.
He drove it every day. When it finally rusted to the point of no return, he sold it to his mechanic for 800.00. it became a firewood hauler.
Wish I could find an affordable 3 on the tree.

This C-10 thing is crazy, not that it means but the prices at B/J for these was way above stupid. Just came back from GNR Show. We were outside and a guy walked up to my friends 67, and asked how much. He said 40 K and the guy said I will take it! We all said think you sold it too cheap.

    I’ve always disliked this color.

I would instead buy a new truck, this one is fun to drive for awhile but that would wear off quickly. Nostalgia is a powerful drug.

Don’t know if it’s a shadow or what, but the passenger side rocker panel looks kinda bent up where it meets the passenger side front fender.🤔

This is all crazy but it is what it is, period. You guys that think long boxes and 4-W-D are worth more money aren’t paying attention and you have your heads in the sand. Also, you just discovered something crazy in Cave Creek Az. I have only lived in Az. about 6 years and I think I knew that 71/2 years ago. It’s crazy town wild wild west, everyone carries again. Last time I had that experience I lived in South East Asia with a bunch of guys that were even younger than I was.
