Off-Road Project: 1969 Land Rover Series IIA 88
As Dr. Seuss so simply put it, “Oh, the places you’ll go!” That sums up this 1969 Land Rover Series IIA 88 perfectly. Currently, at an opening bid of $4,000, the price has only one place to go, up. But hopefully not too far. This is a fair condition Land Rover so be mindful of a fair price limit. At the moment only 7 people are currently watching it. There is no reserve indicated. It is located in Junction City, Ohio and has no VIN or miles listed. The title is said to be clear. You can view more on eBay.
Other than a few photos and a mention of the motor looking like everything is there, the listing has no information about the condition and history of it, like when the last time it ran. Land Rover experts will have to chime in on this one to let us know what engine is in it specifically. It should be one of three, either a 2.25 liter 4-cylinder diesel, a gas 2.25 liter 4-cylinder, or a 2.6 liter inline-6. All of those engines only had one, 4-speed manual transmission option. I am also concluding that the 88 indicates an 88-inch wheelbase, or the shorter version made for that year.
There is very little left of an interior. Then again, there really was not a whole lot to start with when it came to interiors for this vehicle. Hopefully, if the goal of getting this thing off-roading once again is your aim, sourcing parts is not too difficult for you. As primitive as these Land Rovers can be, it helps, but it is still nice to have some sort of cushioning. There does appear to be some major rust in the floors though, and the seller notes that this barn find Rover has a rusty frame.
Depending on how damaged that frame is will greatly impact what you can do with this truck and what it takes to get it on the road. Hopefully, it can be put to some use. It is such a status of an off-road vehicle, that it would be sad for it to just be parted out or worse, left to rust away. It still has places it wants to go, places it wants to take you. First, though, make a bid to bring it home.

Doesn’t run, no back window, no interior, no doors, rusted frame, and Barn Finds calls it “fair condition.” I would be interested to see what you would call poor condition.
It is a 4 cyl 2.25 gas engine, missing its air filter, but otherwise the engine bay looks original, but still a major restoration needed to bring the truck into safe driving conditions.
2.25 petrol. The 6 was never offered in the short wheelbase vehicles. The diesels share some basic components with the gas engines (block) but don’t have a carburetor sticking up!
This is the Land Rover equivalent of a Porsche 356 coupe on a pallet. It needs WAY more than it is worth when you’re done. Yes, a solid usable one is 2-3x the price but you’d save a lot of time and money buying something else. I have been GIVEN better LR’s than this one. I do hope the seller gets the asking price but I wouldn’t bet on that happening.
PRA4SNW sarcastically states: Best photos and description of a vehicle on EBay, ever.
The thing looks like it is getting ready to rocket to the moon.
And as with most Barn Finds, the “power robbing” air cleaner has been removed.
