Original Paint: 1972 International Harvester Scout II
Update – This Scout sold shortly after entering Early Access.
There were over 500,000 International Scouts built from 1961 to 1980. Most of the ones we look at have been exposed to the elements to such an extent that they need rust repair and, in some cases, a complete restoration. This example is located in San Antonio, Texas and is listed for sale here on eBay. It has reportedly only traveled 49,000 miles and is still sporting its original paint from the factory. The exterior is painted in gold and the lower portion of the Scout is painted in black. It is currently bid to $16,500 with 2 days remaining in the auction.
The black interior looks original and shows that the Scout is equipped with a 4 speed floor shifted transmission. Most Scouts by this period of the production run were equipped with automatic transmissions. This example is also equipped with air conditioning that is in working order. The gauges are also in working order.
This Scout II is powered by a 304 cubic inch V8 engine. The first Scouts left the factories in the 1960s with a 152 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder engine that produced only 93 horsepower. Later Scouts came with the 196 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder and a 232 cubic inch and 258 cubic inch inline 6-cylinder were also available. Also, a 266 cubic inch, 304 cubic inch V8 (this one), and a 345 cubic inch V8 engine were equipped in later versions of the Scout.
International Harvester was the first to mass produce a true SUV starting in 1961. After the first production run of the Scout 80 ended in 1965, International Harvester introduced the Scout 800 which was produced in three sub-models (800, 800A, and 800B) from 1966 to 1967. The Scout 800A was produced from 1968 to 1970. The Scout 800B had a short production run of only a few months from August 1970 to March 1971. It was replaced by the Scout II which had a 10-year production run from 1971 to 1980. This one looks original down to the hub caps.

That is sweet. Probably the nicest one I’ve ever seen. So many all rusted away 40 years ago here in the Northeast.
This is an awesome find in rare original condition. Hope the new owner doesn’t cut the top off, paint it neon orange and jack it up 6’ with monster tires…
No longer available, sounds like they sold it off of FeeBay.
Any idea what it sold for?
80/800 were the ones 4 me. Did like the last 2 yrs SII w/the nissan SD 32, then 33 w/turbo diesel. Love the dash, plain grill, wrkman like shifters, vinyl seat (slippery not like the cloth)…
