Original Bright Red Paint: 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic
Quite some time had passed since the Chevrolet Caprice had gotten a significant restyle when the fourth-generation car was rolled out in 1991, but this one was different and GM had high hopes for its revised full-size Chevy offering. Motor Trend loved it, awarding their Domestic Car Of The Year award for ’91 to the Caprice Classic, while others seemed to be more critical of the new outward appearance. If you’re into the nineties fashion and in the market for a nicely preserved example, this 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic here on Craigslist might be worth checking out. The sedan is in Richland, Washington, and comes with an asking price of $3,600.
We’d like to thank reader Rocco B. for his excellent tip here! While these cars proved very popular for fleet use, this one appears that it’s more than likely been a family cruiser with the seller telling us the exterior is all original, so I’m assuming that Bright Red finish is still the factory paint job. To be nearing the 30-year mark, things outside still look pretty good overall displaying a reasonable shine and straight metal, with the exception of the rear door on the driver’s side. The tires are stated as being like-new, although it looks like the one up front on the passenger corner may have been curbed.
The interior isn’t perfect, as the steering wheel and carpeting are showing some wear, but with over 138k miles of use, it’s about as good as I’d expect. There’s not any obvious tearing in the upholstery and I didn’t spot any cracks inside, but tobacco aficionados take note that the cigarette lighter is missing the critical component needed to fire up a smoke.
This one’s got the standard 4.3-liter V8, which was making right at 200 horsepower for 1994. The seller says the car runs and drives excellent, with a couple of new parts recently added such as a water pump and thermostat, and he feels confident the car is ready for the next owner to enjoy. If you need a car this large and dig the body lines, this Caprice Classic seems like a very good contender for the budget-conscious buyer shopping for a car under the $4k price point. My guess is that this Caprice spent its first 10,000 miles in Avis’ rental fleet.
had a 96 Police model with the LT1. Great design with the Opti-miss distributor directly under the water pump.
I’ve owned three LT1’s to include a 97 Z28, 92 Corvette, and a 94 Caprice Classic LT1. All had the Opti-Spark with no issues. All three cars had dripping water pumps but did it not affect the Opti’s. I replaced the water pumps and all three cars run great with their original Opti’s. It seems to me that a lot of commenters (not all) dog the Opti-Spark’s because of heresay not to mention some have never owned a LT1.
Distributor should have been replaced when the water pump was.
I thought the reference to the 4.3 v8 was a mistake, but Chevy did make a 265 v8 from 1994 to 96. Returning to its original roots.

Ugh, I forgot just how fugly this car was. This 94 was a little better than the first few years that had the rear fender skirts. Hideous. Reminded me of a beached whale. For me, the worst years of a wonderful nameplate. One redeeming factor was the Impala SS.
