Original Montana Ranch Truck: 1978 Ford F-250
This 1978 Ford F-250 4×4 was said to have been purchased by the current owner from an elderly Montana rancher. Still located in Billings, Montana, it is for sale here on eBay with a current bid of just over $3,000. Overall, the truck is showing some use but it appears to be in decent original condition. It has said to be stored inside and looks like an honest survivor.
The interior appears to be in really good and original condition. You have to love the red/white combination. Even the door panels look like they haven’t seen much wear. There is no photo of the engine, but it is said to be a 351 cubic inch with an automatic transmission. It is said to run and drive well, but the AC doesn’t blow cold.
There are some rust spots and rock chips from years of use on gravel roads. Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be more than surface issues. The seller states “…truck seems very solid and I have not found any evidence of rot and/or rot repair.” So what do you think of this truck? Will you be a bidder?

I think this is heck of a buy. I’m not a great fan of the M engines but a 429 b hholts right in. If it closer to me I would buy it and flip it.
Whew… Now bid to $6300 as I type this. My guess is it will sell in the teens, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it hits $20k. It’s getting really hard to find these late 70’s 4×4 Fords without a ton of rust.
Nice looking survivor. Shame about the automatic, tho.
My first new vehicle was a 77 F150 4X4 with a 351 and granny gear four speed. I special ordered it with the Explorer and Northland Special options. It came in May with everything but the Explorer badges. $6250 out the door. I met my wife to be a few months later and drove her to the hospital in 1981 to deliver our first son. Traded it for a new 1988 Caravan. I showed the photo to her and she said “Like yours” .
