Original 4 speed: 1966 Pontiac GTO
Many consider the GTO to be the first muscle car. Introduced in 1964, it certainly was popular. This 1966 Pontiac GTO is located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. If you can say the name of this small town, you get a discount on the asking price of the GTO. The seller has this car listed for sale here on Craigslist for $32,500. It has only been list for a day and is white with a blue interior. Originally purchased out of Oklahoma, the GTO looks solid and is said to be an original 4 speed car. We appreciate TJ for finding this nice looking ride.
The blue interior looks nice and stock with low back vinyl seats and the 4 speed shifter prominently protruding from the center transmission hump. The carpet looks fine but it would help if there were better pictures of the dash. There is an aftermarket gauge, probably a temp gauge, mounted under the dash. There appears to be no radio installed in the dash. The rear seat looks like it has never been sat in. The GTO is said to be originally from California which may explain its excellent condition.
Under the hood is a 400 cubic inch V8 engine fed through a 4 barrel carburetor. The ad interestingly says that a new 4 wheel disc brake package was installed on the car. There are no pictures of the rear disc brakes in the ad so I wonder if the seller misspoke since the car probably came with front disc and rear drum brakes. Can you see anything that would support this claim in the ad?
The GTO looks stock with aged paint and factory wheels. There is rust in the trunk area which the seller describes as minimal. The car is said to have its original steel with no bondo and to be straight. In regards to its running condition, the ad says that it is a great driver and the seller might consider a trade for a newer Corvette.

This would have come with 4 wheel drum as disc brakes were first offered in the GTO in 1967.
It’s hard to find a driver quality GTO with a solid, dry undercarriage at this price. So many of them are either projects or higher end restorations.
It won’t last long.
The ad says Craigslist but goes to marketplace
Neat goat. Miss my 64 gto #3 built. It came with the 389 TriPower, but when new in the trunk was 421 heads and bigger TriPower. Also, cast-iron headers. What a rare piece. Never had a 66 or67. I did have a 68 goat and a 65. nothing like my 64! sold it to a guy in south Seattle. Told him what it was but he didn’t care. Even gave him the orig.owners phone #. I talked too that guy twice and what a story he told me. sold it in 1967 to the guy that I got it from in 1992.I ve told this before, sorry to repeat. does any one know how to trace the first gto,s phs i guess.
nice original piece. i will never understand why people hack the a/c out especially in these older cars when a/c was rare and will help the price today. good luck to the seller!.
Amen!
Must have swapped bucket seats with the wear on the inside of the passenger bucket
The ad says the engine is a 400. It must have been changed. The 1966 GTO was a 389. The 400 was introduced in 1967.
Oconomowoc, Wisconsin?? You oughta see Maquoketa, Iowa! (Home of Clinton small engines!)
Reminds me 50 yrs ago, I had a Clinton 3hp in my lil Indian mini bike back in ’73! Recall it being white with a red arrowhead on it.
Nice car but why oh why do you show a picture of a headliner with a broke out $5.00 lense ?
