Low-Mile Monte: 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
There are still a good number of these Monte Carlo Super Sports from the 1980s still running around today. There aren’t many, though, that only have 52,700 miles on the odometer. This one, listed here on eBay, appears to have been well maintained over the last three decades.
The seller lists the Monte Carlo as having a 5.0 liter V8. While there is no mention of the performance parts, the pictures do show some items that would not have come from the factory. A set of headers and an aluminum intake are the first two giveaways, but it looks like it may be hiding an Edelbrock carburetor under the air cleaner. These items are at least tasteful upgrades to what looks to be an otherwise nice original car.
The interior certainly looks like it belongs in a car with only 52,700 miles on it. While these Super Sports aren’t rare, finding one with an interior like this would definitely be harder to find. If there any downside to this interior, it’s that the maroon may be a bit overkill. For someone looking for a time capsule collector car, the color here would be a non-issue. With so many of these cars seeming to have black or maroon exteriors, the white tends to set this one apart a little bit more.
While only speculation, it’s not a stretch to think that the original purchaser knew that this would be the last year for the Monte Carlo. This one even still carries the factory invoice, which apparently suggests that it was a special order car. As the years continue to move forward, these G-bodies from the 1980s are starting to garner a little bit more attention in terms of collectibility. They can still be had for a halfway decent price and will continue to increase in value. With a current bid of over $6,000, what do you think this one will go for?

I always liked these, but I rarely saw them without IROC wheels in place. A lot of IROC wheels were fitted to S10s back then, too.

I favored the ’87’-’88 over the older version. Just like the back end better. Car would look and handle better with the ZQ8 S10 wheels. At least I thought it did.
Vacuum advance is unhooked because – racecar? Also love chopped fuel lines and screw clamps. Guaranteed fire at some point.
An 87 Aerocoupe just brought $40,000 at auction, but I prefer the flat trunk. I owned an 88 from 91 to 93. Should never havecl sold it, but got $9,300 for it. Dark Claret with EVERY option. Never wet. Garage kept. I put 30,000 miles on it. One of the best cars I ever owned. Miss it. 305 was plenty fast enough on the highway.
a 32 year old Chevrolet… I got my ’41, bought in ’71, and it was an old car then, yet not as nice as this. Just boggles my mind a tad this Saturday morning as I reach for another cup of joe…
Like today’s “cars”, a good parking lot “bump” can do a lot of damage to that monte front end – even more so than, say, to a ’67 camaro, especially with front bumper guards.
Funny thing is, a good friend of mine had one of those new,,1987, burgundy on burgundy, loved that car, he was 22 yrs old when he owned it, he moved on after that car to many fine cars, Mercedes,BMW etc, so when he turned 50,he decided he wanted that car again, we located a low mileage replica of his, well after all the years of those great cars, driving this 305 Sticker show was quite a let down, memories sometimes blur things
